View Full Version : ZDoomGL?

Does anyone at all know if there is a working version of ZDoomGL? - or how to get the only version I have found to work?

Version 0.74, from http://www.doomworld.com/doomgl/ was a real mess and completely unplayable. About 75% of the textures reverted to F_SKY1,(even the floors!) the rest blinking off and on depending on the player orientation.

JDoom plays just great, even on my old machine with a relatively mediocre video card, but I could not get anything in the settings to make ZDoomGL run any better. (I was surprised it didn't crash or freeze.)

There is a source only download for version 0.75a at http://sourceforge.net/projects/zdoomgl that seems to be the most recent development, but I can't do anything with source code at all.

So this is a real bummer since so many people are making these great looking maps for ZDoom I would like to play. Without the GL support, the special ZDoom features can hardly compare to the visual experience of JDoom, IMO.

Any help or info about this would be greatly appreciated, as would any info about possible other Doom ports with high-res graphics. I have not seen.

Try "gl_clip_nearclip 0.1" in the console?

If you want a Jdoom alternative, ZdoomGL probably isn't the way to go yet Psyren.

But it's fast, glitchless and it allows you to play Zdoom maps in GL. The effects and gameplay in some zdoom maps makes them worth playing, piles of eye candy or not. Try any of the following maps out with ZdoomGl and you'll see what I mean:

Thank you both. :) I have just now finished downloading all the files to run it again, so I'll give it a try. :D

I also have a problem with ZDoomGL. It's installed correctly, but my monitor says "Mode Not Supported" followed by some numbers that represent the screen resolution. The only thing I can do is press "Esc", the up key, "Enter", and "Y" to exit.

I can't fix the screen resolutions while in ZDoomGL either. Any help?

Do you have OpenGL installed on your computer?

Yes I do.

I have jDoom so it should work, but like I said before, my monitor gives a "Mode Not Supported" message.:(

640 X 480 is translated in my user manual as H 31.47KHz V 60Hz.

The error message displays (this is just what I can remember...it may not be exact, but it's very close) H 31.3 KHz V72Hz and there's resolution of that kind for my monitor.

set "gl_vid_refresh" to 60. That'll force the refresh rate to 60Hz rather than letting ZDoomGL try to pick the highest available refresh rate for the selected resolution.

edit: just to clarify, "gl_vid_refresh" defaults to 0, which lets ZDoomGL try to determine the best refresh rate for the selected resolution. Setting it to anything else will force the refresh rate and 60Hz is a pretty universal refresh rate...
