Ok, I admit it! I was really, *really* bored this afternoon! There, I said it! Happy now? :p

Anyway, I was lolligagging around a bit making demos of random Vilecore maps with Legacy, when I noticed something. After recording a few demos, I tried to view them to see if they were any good.

But for some reason, the demos ended up twisted. My "demo-me" was just shooting thin air, walking into walls and demons, jumping into nukage pools etc. What's up with that?

Were you attempting to watch them with exactly the same version of Legacy that you recorded them with?

Were you recording them from the command line? Or via the Launcher? (Both methods should work OK.)

Yeah, Legacy isn't the best for demo-compatibility, but it should be compatible with itself, as long as the versions are the same.

Id like to see some of those demos. :D

It's like they say. You have to run them in the same version they were made in or it'll be mucked up. I had the same problem. :/

I used the Launcher of Legacy 1.40A to record and replay the demos. I tried it again a few times just now and it seems short demos do work, but longer ones don't.

And yes, DD, I'll be sure to send you a few when I actually figure out how to do them right :).

When you say "longer ones", are they much over 20 minutes? If so, you'll need to add -maxdemo 1024 in the "additional options" in the launcher - otherwise you're limited to 128K, which tends to be somewhere between 20 and 30 minutes. It doesn't desync when it hits the limit though ; it just stops recording.

I can't recall if 1.40a had any major desynching issues (with itself). One recent version has been described as unstable w.r.t. demos, but I think it was 1.41. Not sure (and haven't verified that myself): it's nearly a year since I stopped recording with Legacy.

Vilecore 12 (http://homepage.uvt.nl/~s430017/Vilecore Map12.lmp)
Vilecore 13 (http://homepage.uvt.nl/~s430017/Vilecore Map13.lmp)

Yay... Some of my Vilecore demos... I say "some", because 3 of them desyncronised, including the best of them, made in the Vilecore itself. *sulk*

Oh well, at least some of them work :D.

They appear to be recorded with version 1.41. (In "demo info" in the launcher, it says "DEMO VERSION 1.41".) I know some people who record regularly with Legacy have decided to stick with 1.40. I think that's due to desynching issues, and this would tie in with your experience.

Hmm... That might be the problem then... Thanks :).
