In Doombuilder, these are identified as:
SR Light Change to Brightest (138)
SR Light Change to Darkest (139)
Brightest... what? Sector in the level, or 255?
Darkest... what?
I'm trying to (big surprise) create some light switches, and am having a hard time getting this to work as I want it to.

I looked in DoomCad just to see what they were specified in the .ini file. Anyways....
138=Button_LightLevel_To_255
139=Button_LightLevel_To_35

Well if you use a source port you could do it with scripting.

Yeah they went to both extremes when they set up those lights. I've only used them once and I think I changed that in Vilecore. It would be better if they switched between 96 and 208 or somethin. heh

I wouldn't mind one that does "darkest adjacent" They have a SR for "lightest adjacent."
Sheesh!

Hmm... I use brightness levels 0 to 20 for pitch black rooms,
20 to 50 for really dark rooms, 50-80 for moderately dark rooms, 80-120 for "normal-light" in rooms, 120-140 for light rooms, and 140 and up for outside areas or areas close to lightsources. So most of my wads are pretty dark :p.

Well, if the sector that needs its light changed touches just one other sector, you can make that sector dark and use the SR "lightest adjacent". Since the only sector adjacent to the subject-sector is the dark sector, it'll still be the "lightest adjacent sector".

I use 64 to 112 for dark rooms.
128 to 144 for normal lightened rooms
160 to 176 for bright rooms
192 to 240 for outside areas and sometimes 255

For normal areas I use between 88 and 112

Tolwyn: Make a separate sector somewhere outside the map and merge it with the one you want to darken. In DB you do this by selecting the parent sector, then selecting the sector to inherit the former's settings, the default is to press ctrl-j. So first select the sector you want to darken and second the one outside the map, then merge.
So now you have a separate portion of the sector you want to darken. Draw a sector around this portion, so the two sectors are in a donut style shape and then set the new sector to the light level you want to apply to the first sector.
This would have been much easier with diagrams, but I don't have any free and easy webspace I'm afraid.
