First of all, if the master server is up you should be able to just go into the multiplayer / join server menu and find available games but if it isn't there are other great options:
First of all there's DOOM Connector (http://doomconnector.com). Unfortunately they are losing their hosting on March 1st so unless another host is found it will be going down until they find an alternate home. This brings us to option two:
You can join the legacy IRC chatroom:
irc.freenode.net:6667 #legacy
using your favorite IRC program or you can use the handy dandy java client:
New Zealand: http://pages.quicksilver.net.nz/druids/chat1.html
Canada: http://www.telusplanet.net/public/daewoo/dmn/teeny.html
Now that you know how to find other players you can grab this package (http://www.telusplanet.net/public/daewoo/download/lc0-6.zip) to help you more easily create and join servers. Using the utilities is pretty self explanitory but there is further documentation in each programs subfolder. Remember to unzip the package into your Legacy folder and to let the zip create subfolders. These utilities are extremely simple but they do the job quite nicely. :)

Doom Connector appears to be defunct. Ah well. We'll just have to get our own jobby up and running.

Nice tool for MP!
Since DC is down, and looks to stay that way, I suppose this is our only way to get some online action going.
Good batchscripting there, been awhile since I seen those. But is it nescessary to put the files in three different folders? Isn't the use of variables (ie: set gametype=join, call %gametype%.bat) possible? Sure would tidy up the scripts I reckon.
(Not meant as critique, I'm really happy someone's put an effort into this!)

Well my coding abilities are pretty limited so there's no offense taken. That and my knowledge of DOS is lacking too. Mr.Rocket is working on a KILLER new Connector jobby so hopefully that will get finished up relatively soon so we can all get back to fraggin. Mancubus II is also working on getting DC back up and hosted on a server so DC may not be dead after all.

I'm hoping someone comes up with a program so we can play all our favorite Doom ports multiplayer and chat again.

To connect to the masterserver all you need to do is open Legacy, as usual. Once the program is open drop the console down and type:
listserv
If there are any servers running, to connect type:
connect <ip>
where <ip> is the ip address for the game you want to join.
Alternatively, you can try a program called DoomConnector (http://doomconnector.com), or If you use mIRC you can try #LegacyDoomLauncher (http://xiO.kicks-ass.net), or you can connect directly to someone with Rellik's program which you already have.

OH i see.... i knew about doom connector and mIRC already, i just thought that legacy also had its own Masterserver software or anything....
But, then i guess ill just stick to listserv and Doom Connector ;)
Thanks, though

When I run listserv it always tells me that there are no servers running... Should I be experiencing a problem with my firewall or internet connection or its just that there are no working servers out there?.
I was able to connect to a game once and, mysteriously, I was kicked :P.
It annoys me a little ´cos in the server status web http://legacy.newdoom.com/dlms_status.php tells me about the server up and running for 9 days but "No server connected" in the server´s list. I´m a true noob in these kind of things so any help would be very appreciated :).

Your probably doing everything all right..it's just that every dedicated server configuration I've seen in most cases has a little dos box or a way you can host the game dedicated without actually loading the game and without using any system resources, like quake 1,2,3 and above.
That way we could all have a dedicated server running 24/7 while posting here in the forum.
Don't get me wrong, you could host a dedicated client side server which would show up on the master server query, but most wouldn't want to have a game window or the game running fullscreen 24/7.
so until we have the ability to host dedicated without leaving the desktop, then there just wont be alot of servers running.
It would be nice to just use the legacy launcher, multiplayer>server tab and add something like +dedicated and the server would run in a dedicated console box.and possibly in the client tab we would have a small server scanner.
Good news is, once there is then we should see a good handful of servers running 24/7 :) - not sure about the C version , but i think smite is working on a new netcode in the C++ version for this, so hopfully things like this will be a thing of the past soon.
and a lot more servers wil show up in from xio's mirc legacy launcher as well http://xio.kicks-ass.net/ ,has a real time server browser.

I can´t say I understood a lot about that but... Thanks :). I´ll try with Xio´s way.

a client side server can host a game but wont be running all the time, most cases it will only be running long enough for a quick dm game or a few levels of coop, or until that client wants to go eat dinner. :) and the game will be shutdown. and wont be visible in any server list after that point.
a dedicated server runs a netgame without actually running the game its self, it can still do all the nifty console commands as will as maybe execute a server.cfg for map rotations things like that. this type of server runs 24/7 and can stay running while you eat dinner. ;) and will remain visible in the server list all the time.

Most useful Mr.Rocket, seems stupid but these notions weren´t clear to me. And the question is... Is there a way I can connect to those dedicated servers if they exist for Legacy?. I want to be beaten in DM :P!.

Nope a dedicated server doesn't exist for legacy "yet". that's sorta what I was saying we need if we want to have servers running all the time in the server list.
Until then it will have to be all client side. and we can still beat you in DM that way if wanted :P

One thing about dedicated servers...
Let's say you figure you are going to just start a game up on your PC, and you know your IP address, and you want to invite others to play with you. Typically, your Internet Service Provider (ISP) WON'T allow you to run a server on a standard residential account. They do this, because if they let people connect to your PC, you would host your own email, your own web server, your own FTP server, etc etc.
So, typically, they require you have a business account in order to allow people through THEIR firewalls to get at your home account. That means instead of $30 a month, they will probably charge you $70+ a month instead. You can see that now the desire to host your own online game has just gotten less fun sounding :(
However, some ISP's have different restrictions (no I don't know any personally). Also, sometimes people with business accounts for small businesses or even large businesses might be fans of DooM, and go and set up a server :)
So, if any of you work for Microsoft.... we could really use a DooM legacy server hahahaha. You can buy hosting online also....
http://www.artofwarcentral.com/main.asp?page=gp
http://www.gamedaemons.net/
...are a couple examples, but they usually cost a pretty penny. Also, having a regular business account could have some restrictions and bandwidth and speed issues. If you really get a dedicated line that has any sort of speed at all, you could start running into $400+ a month in just getting the service to your property to set the server up in. That is why these places charge to run the servers for the games.
