I was just wondering what was the best and probably most stable port to play Strife with, because I really want to get into Strife. Any answer will be fine with me.

Vavoom has the most comprehensive Strife support currently avaliable.

Thanks very much, I appreciate the help.

No problem, but remember that it still isn't fully playable - it's damn close, but I guarantee you'll run into a problem somewhere unfortunately. Hopefully the next Vavoom release won't be so far away, and everything'll work.

Vavoom's Strife support is tricky and hard to explain, but I guess since it's the only one able to do it you really have no other choice. You could also wait for the next release of Vavoom sometime in the year 2016, and hopefully then Strife will be fully ported and supported. OR, you could wait for Doomsday to support it in the future (apparently it's being planned).

If you really want to play Stife it might best to wait a while till you can play the game all the way through and that's a way off even for Vavoom.

I find it pretty impressive that Vavoom supports Strife as much as it does right now considering the source code for the game was never released. :)

Well, don't hold your breath. The dude(s) who made Vavoom update the port less often than I change my underwear (joke). Hopefully they'll pick up the pace and start working on it again. But I hear EDGE is now being worked on (by a new team) and if they're serious about it, then, hey, maybe even EDGE will support Strife.

How can you say that Vavoom updated twice last year! - yes the second time was because the build didn't have a sound in it but still that's pretty good going :D

I must of not heard the news, EDGE has got a new team? I hope they give that engine a good rub down.

I dont have stirfe, but it sounds like a great game. Hope more source ports get support for it, and then maybe i'll go buy it.

I don't think "2 updates in one year" (which were incidental in this case anyway) means a port is being paid a lot of attention to. Look at ZDoom and Doomsday. They at least one update every two months. Vavoom hardly ever updates, and when it does it's some minor change (which shows they really haven't been working on it).
Yes, EDGE has a new team (or so I heard) and if you check the website you'll see it's under redevelopment. I hope they give it a good rub down too.

I think you missed the subtle humour...
I heard about that EDGE thing but that was a month or two ago and nothing has happened so I wouldn't hold your breath.
BTW we are finally getting started on Strife support in Doomsday (aka jStrife).

zdoom is starting support on strife now
its just hard with the source, and may not be supported at all
i think its just going to be used for its editing features

Well I don't think it's looking hopeless just because the EDGE page hasn't been constructed yet. It's under reconstruction and I think they actually might go somewhere with the project. At least I hope.
Good to hear ZDoom and Doomsday are both thinking about support for Strife.

Hey Sparky, what's up!
I came across Len Pitre's StrifeDoom2000 (http://archonrealm.cjb.net/) patch for MBF. Unfortunately sound effects don't work right on my particular SB Live with pretty much any dos source port that uses allegro sound libraries (even though the vanilla exes, zdoomdos, and some dos Doom Legacy's work). So I'm looking for a windows or nonallegro port that supports MBF's randomjump code pointer.
Anyway, Sehacked v0.4 (http://doomworld.com/sehacked) should give a lot of insight on how things work in Strife aside from just being fun to mess around with.
