I don't know how to phrase this... I'll use examples then:
When I first got Sim City 2000, I listened to Rob Zombie while playing it. Now, I can't play it without listening to it. The same thing with Quake. I have to listen to Sepultura's "Chaos A.D." Similarly, I have to listen to System of a Down's first album while playing fallout.
Any of you ever had anything like that happen?

Similar. I always hear (in my inner ear) Charles And Eddy's "Would I Lie To You" when I see a certain zone in Sonic - The Hedgehog, because it was in the radio when I played that zone for the first time.
But when playing I always listen to the game's music.

Yup, games go with music.
Evanescence and ill nino - Final Fantasy X
The smashing pumpkins - rolling
Extreme euphoria - Need for speed underground
I know what you are talking about, you get a game and an album at around the same time, do both at the same time, then neither seem complete without the other.

Can't say I have really, well except this word game we have I played Countdown to Extinction or Rust in Peace and got a very high score! :D But the music on that game is annoying so I just put on whatever I want. I guess if I was to play a game with a lot of speech in it then it would have to be an instrumental CD with no singing because the lyrics would just distract me too much.

Evanescence need to die. I hope they live up to their name.

In what way? How do you mean live up to their name?

ev·a·nesce: intr.v. ev·a·nesced, ev·a·nesc·ing, ev·a·nesc·es
To dissipate or disappear like vapor
I think that's what he means. Evanescence is OK on their album, but I've seen them "live," and I wasnt' too impressed (it was just on TV, but still. MTV should do a better job of making the bands actually sound good.)
But, yes Azrael: That's exactly what I meant! Another weird thing that has happened, is I can't play Fallout without eating Runts. And also, whenever I play Harvest Moon for my PSX, I get the sudden urge to have a sandwich. Heh. It drives me nuts.

Ahhhh, that makes sense. I was under the impression that they just made the word up. We just make these strange connections don't we? I can't play any tony hawk game without having a beer.

When I play Gunbound, I can only liten to Flickerstick. I've tried other bands, but nope, has to be Flickerstick. I guess because I listened to them nonstop while playing for days. If I don't listen to them while playing, I don't listen to any music.

The BPM also translates to the activity of the gamer. I can play games that require frantic activity and quick responses erally well when I listen to Mad capsule market.

I usually listen to the in-game music because I don't want to hear some vocals / singer going on and on when I'm playing as I find that distracting. Sometimes I also prefer to turn off the game music and just listen to the in-game sounds. Heh

Most games that I play don't require hte sound, or I can make do without. At christmas I was playing WRC4 round my friends girlfriends uncles house. We had karaoke going on in the background. Funny stuff.

Whenever I play the original Soldier Of Fortune I need Rammstein. When I was playing D&D like a year ago, we always listened to Damage Done by Dark Tranquillity on the way there, and now whenever I think of D&D I start hearing the album in my head. The whole thing.

I can see that yes. Crikey haven't listened to them in ages. *Puts on Osc-Dis* Hmmm last time I played music with a game was DooM 2 (Ninja let me install it on my computer) and I had Judas Priest on in the CD drive. I guess Hell Patrol is kind of appropriate, just that WMP interfered a bit with the game. *angry*

I used to always play Quake to Prodigy. Nowadays though, I usually have music off, and just have the sounds of the game world.

The chick from Evanescence can't sing.
Anyway, I never got in the habit of listening to other music during a game since the idea of having a music and sfx volume setting has been relatively new. Quake is probably the only exception and Legacy when it first came out. I'd put in a music CD and use that, but I usually just turn the music off in those games these days.
Of course, for games without music I can put on something in WinAmp, which is what I used to do with text muds.

I dont listen to anything external ususally when playing games, although sometimes I do. Doom64 must have complete sound priority when I play it, Nuff said.
Sometimes I forget to use the -nocd flag in legacy, and end up listening to Metallica... thats all usually.
