I worked a lot on map01 today. All I have left to do is tweak the monster placements, the ammo amounts, fix a few textures, build a small piece on an outside area and that's about it. So either tommorrow or Saturday I should be finished Desecrated Paths.
The map got bigger than originally planned but its not huge. There are 3 secret areas.... each requiring you to look at things closely, otherwise forget finding the secrets. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/tongue.gif
Using Exl's TRC proggy..... theres 98 monsters on UV, 86 for HMP and 65 on the child skill levels. Heh. That's it for now.

I finally finished it. The map I sent to Sparky to add to the ones on his FTP site. So the link on the downloads page won't be working till he uploads my map.... and I only just now emailed Sparky.
You'll also need the updated Resource wad because I added the xtra textures from my 2 maps to it.

Gah! Too much school! Haven't worked on this stuff in a while. Map10 is almost there architecturally other than some details and secrets. Most of the monster placement I already have a good idea about. It'll probably feel a lot like an E1 map in the way it plays, except bigger and witha different atmosphere.
My other map is more like a concept right now. The idea is to have an installation that was in hell and got smashed in the middle so you'll have to go through some hell caves to cross it. I wanna do it in brown textures but most of those were holdovers from Tomm Hall's original DooM spec and went in the alphas. They're not as developed and usable as a theme.

Well I got it played today. It's not too short and not too long. No bugs thatI could find, The secrets are pretty cleverly done but I found them all.I like the end level part most. That's my stats on Desecrated Paths. I have only one *tiny* remark; there's a little ammo missing on the map. Now, I suck at playing Doom, but a few more shotgun shells sprayed around the map should do it I think. Otherwise, great map!
Hell, maybe we could record demos so the mapper can see how others play his map and analyse that?

I can put more ammo in. That's no biggie. I played it without going into the secrets and made it through on all the skills. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/wink.gif Of course, since I made the map.. it's a bit easier for me.
If you used the double barrel a lot you run out of ammo I know. That's if you found it.

Hehe, either spread a couple of shells across the map or put one box o' shells in front of the courtyard part (before the exit) for those n00b doomers like me http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/wink.gif And I used mostly the normal shotgun, since I thought the dbarrel one would use too much ammo.

I tend to use the db shotty on the pinkys and the spectres and then use the shotgun on the other stuff.

Yes, a very good opening level indeed. I particularly like that courtyard area at the end.

Well unless there's some kind of miracle guys I don't think I'm going to be able to submit a map. I just haven't been in a SP mood for a long time now and haven't played a SP map for ages. That combined with the stuff I'm doing for Legacy means I won't have the time. Sorry bout that. Good luck with the project though! The screenies look kick-ass!

OK problemo...
I get an visplane overflow when running me map in doom2.exe. I know that that exe was what this proj was made for, but sparky also said something about we're allowed to use source ports to get rid of them... So my map, although Doom2 compatible, is source port only?? Cam someone clarify please?

Since the vast majority of players use a sourceport it'd be kind of wasteful to make a old exe compatible mapset. You'd be farther ahead to say it's got to be BOOM compatible.

The original intention was to make a megawad that could be played on any source port. However, if the map is designed for a specific source port it won't play on most others. Therefore, it needs to be as DooM-compatible as possible, with the only exception being the level of detail. A source port would be needed only to prevent VPO errors caused by detailed architecture & lighting.
I have found that some vanilla DooM tricks are not compatible with some source ports, particularly in OpenGL mode. My Map32 used a vanilla DooM 3D bridge that gets screwed up in GL Legacy. In another map I did the 3D bridge worked, but created strange HOM in jDooM. It did not work in GL Legacy.

well if you're going for major sourceport compatability that includes BOOM, hmmm nevermind JDOOM isn't BOOM compatible.
