View Full Version : Best End Bosses

Who or what do you think are the best end bosses in gaming?

I think that Ugh-Zahn III from Serious Sam was one of the best. He was, by far, the largest end boss I've ever seen. He stepped on huge walls and knocked down towering obelisks like they were stacked letter blocks. Not only that, but he looked really cool.

That guy at the end of Quake2. His brain was in his ass and he had a railgun for a head! How cool is that? Oh and of course, the Icon of Sin from Doom2. Remember the first time you saw that huge goat-face and heard him speaking demonish (actually was backwards english, duh). Fuhreeeeaky.

Other memorable endings:
Deus from Xenogears
Pyramid-Head from Silent Hill 2 (not the END boss, but still, he was bad-ass)
Metal Gear Rex

I'm sure there's plenty more...

Dumb end bosses:
Suhb-Niggourath(sp?) from quake. It didn't do anything and all ya had to do was telefrag his ass and avoid the other monsters.
The spider mastermind from the original doom. We all had BFG's at that point and the thing went down faster then a cyberdemon. all you had to do was hit it with 3 quick blasts and BAM, dead. It's more of one big regular monster than a boss.

The Icon of Sin was cool.

I agree that the Spidermind was too easy to kill. It took a lot more shots to kill the cyberdemon. Still, when you think about it...isn't the boss's "bodyguard" (the cyberdemon) usually more powerful than the boss (spidermind) himself?

Metal Gear Rex was awesome. Especially with that cool music going on.

I thought that Irenicus from Baldur's Gate II was a great end boss. He had that great voice, and was hard to kill. Especially when he had powerful hench-demons. Great end to a great game.

I'm not sure I should add the end boss from BGII - Throne of Bhaal on here, because the battle was fun, but extremely hard.

I really hated the Icon of Sin. Most disappointing end boss in history for me. I couldn't believe it, I played and loved the whole game only to be faced by a giant talking wall.

I loved the size of the boss in the first Serious Sam - apart from the way it had to be killed in pretty much the exact same way as Cthon from Quake. I actually really enjoyed the last swordfight with Jaffar in Prince of Persia, I used to love fighting with him. Metal Slug 3's end boss was excellent - in fact I liked most of the end bosses from the Metal Slug games. Although not quite the end boss, the Cyberdemon has to be one of my favourite bosses of all time, although I wish people didn't use them so often in wads these days.

Hmm... can't think of any others right now, I'm sure some will come to me soon.

Prince of Persia was one of the best games I've ever played. Jaffar was hard, but fun. Prince of Persia 2 was fun too, not to mention PoP 3D.

Here's another: Sarevok from Baldur's Gate. He, like the sequel, was a bad guy with a cool voice. The battle was hard, but worth it in the end. The cinimatic that played afterward was neat.

I'm a big Baldur's Gate Series fan. Does it show? http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/biggrin.gif Dang, I gotta play those games more.

Hey! what about Cats from Zero wing?

ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US!

Okay, so I never played past level 2, but c'mon, ALL YOUR BASE.

Did anyone else think the last guy in RTCW was lame? Him and whatever you fight in the end of Summoner 2. What the hell was that?

But since this is the BEST end bosses topic, some more good end bosses:
Mundus, Devil May Cry. The level where you meet him, the white columns and everything, just looked so cool!
The Tyrant from the original Resident Evil. He doesn't now, but back when I was a youngin' playin' the game the first time, that guy scared the pants off me.

I'm not sure about end bosses, but I can say that the bosses in gereral were pretty kool in Serious Sam no doubt! Also I loved the Greet tenticled H.P. Lovecraft type shit coming out of the floor in that round room that you had to climb down. It was not a show down, but it was great! Nightmare Creatures also had it's own Tenticled creature which breathed fire that I liked very much!

Ooh I'm reading some HP Lovecraft at the mo. Anyway... I loved Metal Gear REX that was a cool boss fight. Has anybody played Ico? I quite liked that game and the final boss had me a bit stumped and a bit of a let down but it wasn't as disappointing as FF10 where you fought Yevon and found it was this weird little round thing and also the fact that you couldn't die made it way too easy. But before then the other bosses had been pretty cool. The funniest boss had be the giant moth in SH. That was odd!

I liked the final form of Nemesis in Resident Evil 3. He's this bigass blob that can jump and he sprays poisonous acid from above. You gotta activate this big rail cannon to blow the hell out of him. And he's not done yet. One little piece still survives and you can either run away or finish him off with a colt magnum.

Howard Phillips Lovecraft rocks! I loved "Cool Air."

Back on topic...

This wasn't an end boss, but Legion from the Wheel of Time game was cool. He was made of tons of dead corpses and threw screaming heads at you. That battle was fun.

They remixed the Cool Air story in Necronomicon which is a decent Love craft based film if you have not seen it. Of course the original Cool Air is much much better! http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif

Of course. That's usually the case with a lot of things.
