View Full Version : New Xbox controller colors to be decided by vote

Evil Link
March 17th, 2003, 12:03 PM
Microsoft will be adding a new controller color to the Xbox oeuvre, and gamers will get to decide what color is chosen. Beginning today, a vote is taking place at the official Xbox site to pick between the contestants: blue, clear, green, red, and orange.

The poll runs through the end of March, and controllers bearing the winning color will be unveiled at this May's E3 show. All controllers are of the S variety, and the winner will hit store shelves after E3 for a retail price of $29.99.

anyway i hate consoles... i got suckered b4..>A LOT i owned every single console as well as almost every game for nes snes genesis master system lynx and atari 2600 atari 5200 atari 7800 and turbografx 16...

I don't know, the PS3 looks impressive from what I've heard, a terraflop of performance. But its hard to tell where the PC will be in 2005.

Teraflop performance? Since when can anything less than a big mainframe or super-computer do that??? The fasted computer around is a NEC super-computer that does about 35 teraflops.

Very opinionated, there. Consoles DO have good things about them, such as the Dreamcast which had NesterDC, an NES emulator with a swapdisk interface in which you can put in romdisks and get the true NES experience. Consoles are great for people with friends (not that I'm hinting at anything) because the games tend to be oriented towards multiplayer on a single console, as well as online like computers.

Recently I have become obsessed with the GBA because of the XG DEV utility in which I can upload NES roms to a GBA cartridge. Yes, I am NES obsessed. But it has features like save state and it is portable! And much smaller/cheaper than a laptop.

Plus, there are games that are console-only such as the upcoming Soul Calibur 2 and F-Zero games, which look like they kick ass. Also, Metroid Prime was AWESOME and was never released for PC.

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Trebuchet MS, Arial, Helvetica, serif">quote:</font><hr width="100%" size="1" noshade><font face="Trebuchet MS, Arial, Helvetica, serif" size="2">x-box blows</font><hr width="100%" size="1" noshade></BLOCKQUOTE>

Every console in the console war has its own things to offer. The X-Box's internal hard drive, in which you could *cough* download x-box games and upload them to the x-box rather than buying them *cough* is a nice feature. The DOA series has always been interesting to me. The X-Box has some kickass games, as do the other systems.

VOTE FOR YOUR FAVOURITE COLOUR OR LACK OF COLOUR OR SHADE OR LACK OF SHADE OR TRANSLUCENCY OR LACK OF TRANSLUCENCY!!!

Get a job, jeez. Or find ways around it, as you see I have hinted at. These companies shouldn't have to cut on new things like this because you're lazy. Some games are good, as I mentioned earlier. And the replay factor, as in all gaming machines, is high. For those of us who enjoy games for the game itself, not how new or expensive it is. I still play all my old consoles, as well as my old 486 computer which I didn't upgrade. And weren't you complaining at cost?! Upgrading costs more money than $30!
It is true that computers are better at online things because the internet was DESIGNED for them. Why can't you just be happy with both computers and consoles? Consoles have tons of games, enough to never be bored again.

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Trebuchet MS, Arial, Helvetica, serif">quote:</font><hr width="100%" size="1" noshade><font face="Trebuchet MS, Arial, Helvetica, serif" size="2">i got suckered b4..&gt;A LOT i owned every single console as well as almost every game for nes snes genesis master system lynx and atari 2600 atari 5200 atari 7800 and turbografx 16...</font><hr width="100%" size="1" noshade></BLOCKQUOTE>
Looks like you had parents that were willing to buy whatever you wanted, yet you didn't appreciate it. No wonder. There is no way you owned almost every game, that would come to TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. Please don't lie. Of those, I own NES, SNES, and atari 2600. I love them. And I have played the others, I will be adding them to my collection as my money grows. Please don't diss them.

I seriously doubt that. There are well over 3,000 games for NES alone. You left out a handful of consoles that came to the states and there are tons that never left Japan.

he left a TON... off the top of my head, sega saturn, 3DO, atari jaguar, all the handheld ones (I guess they "don't count"), dreamcast, the new ones (I guess they "don't count" either), N64

I'm sure it was just a list of consoles from his "COOL ROM SITE"

Not to mention almost every console released before the big video game market crash in the second half of 1983. Just about every American company that made toys was spewing out consoles then, not to mention electronics companies. After all, the whole thing was started by Magnavox. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif

What I can't understand is why people get into such heated debates about consoles vs. PCs. Some people like PCs and some like consoles. As long as we've all got something that makes us happy, what's the point in arguing over these dumb details? http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif

You're on a forum entitled OTHER GAMES, and you're saying that you don't sit around and play video games? That's great for you, but the discussion here is ABOUT other games. Well I agree that too much of anything can be bad, that comment was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I almost understood what you mean. Good thing you enjoy old games. I also agree that consoles are sold for a lot more than I would like. That is unfortunate. So you choose not to purchase them, and I choose to support them. Sorry if my earlier post offended you.

Seeing as you don't pay the full price for the hardware I wouldn't say there expensive for what you get. The PS2's VPU has 16 rendering pipes (whether is can fill them is a different story), thats twice of the FX. The GCN uses SRAM and Microsoft had to get a license for the P3 bus, which none is free.

spectre
March 18th, 2003, 10:32 PM
it might be twice the fx but its graphical output isnt...stats = shit without real life testing..

Well its only clocked at 150mhz which about half of a modern graphics card. The VPU has no TnL (its done 1 of 2 seperate processor which also handle other tasks) so that explains the crappy graphics. And the dual channel PC-800 RDRAM setup gives it only 3.2gbs of bandwidth (shared by the CPU) so anything that can't fit into the embedded 4mb of RAM will go slow. Added by the fact that the CPU is a bitch to program for you got a fanboy driven console. It hadn't sold sooo much better than the X-Box or GCN it be dead.

Why buy a $30 controller when you can spraypaint one yourself. And Spectre, I can be the same way you are to the computer side. You have to constantly upgrade them and that blows money out of your pockets. Where as a console can play hundreds of games and you don't have to worry about upgrading. I don't know why people have arguements over consoles and computers. What makes you guys hate consoles so much? It's pretty fuckin' pathetic if you think about it for a while. You all act like a bunch of fuckin kids. This is just one of billions of problems this world faces every day because of people who can't shut the fuck up have to just go around and make trouble.

Yeah, just need to worry about how much a game is downgraded in order for it be playable. The only reason I like consoles because of the games exclusive to them. Hate seeing a great game only to see a only for (insert console here) attached to it.

HyperFlash

I see what you mean (I think). The only reason I'd prefer a console over a computer is because I don't want to spend a lot of money upgrading my computer so that it can play games like Doom 3 or something that requires a $600 video card.

The value and mainstream market is actually much better these days and you can get quite a nice card for $200.
I can't stand gaming in 480i any longer and its cheaper to get a descent gaming machine than an HDTV.
