why do you say that? The duke 3d engine had alot of myserious effects that poeple couldnt explain. Blood was heavily modded, and the tools never gave you the control that you had with other build games. I bought the 'whole blood: one unit' pack and all the tools apart from build were changed

Hell yeah! I bet if people put in a lot of time like we do with Doom I bet Duke3D could turn out to be something cool and new.

Since Duke has always supported higher resolutions, I'd rather someone tweek the BUILD editor to be more stable first.

Could this be a sign of events to come?

What do mean Undertaker?
Like that 3Drealms (finally) figured out that a game can remain viable longer if it's source code is released?

I seem to be the only person on the planet who thinks that too many Opengl effects (lens flares, models, env mapping etc,) doesn't really suit games which look so dated anyway. But anyway, I hope someone does something with the Duke3d source, because as it stands, I can't even currently play it on my newer computer.
And echoing kaiser again - what about Blood? Easily IMO the best Build games there was, with perfect difficulty, awesome atmosphere, weapons etc, etc, Maybe I'll mail Monolith.
And maybe they are releasing sources because the next true installment of Duke is rounding the corner. The timing would make sense.

Hehehe, stable BUILD is good but Duke3D has major bugs too. There are all kinds of little graphics glitches, and the game isn't too stable. On top of that it has annoying limits like 72k midi files and such. A good Win32 port would be great.

"Once in a while a programmer really writes something he's proud of, a slick, elegant, blazingly fast routine that stands as a benchmark against which other code will be judged by. However, this is not the case with TED's fill routine. This slow, stupid algorithm will casually fill one plane of data in a painfully creeping manner. Press ESC when it gets confused." - John Romero on TED (Tile EDitor)
