Is GTA3 for the PC worth it if I already have it for the PS2? I already looked at the differences from the PC version at http://www.gta3.com , which has better sound quality and hi-rez textures the PS2 didn't have

Seeing that you already have the ps2 version dont bother - the pc version is just a rushed port of the playstation version. For starters you need a beefy machine, even then the game slows down in areas. The game runs on average around 10-15fps. Dont even bother getting it if you have a voodoo3,4 or 5 (some issue with directx). I say buy the game and test it - it may be that the game runs fine, but it could also run like shit
I cant play it myself as I have a voodoo3, but when it doesnt freeze up, it seems to do quite well (longest I have managed to play it was 20 minutes before freezing). Im not bothered by so much coz I have Mafia - which is like gta3 but you play as a mafia guy in the 30's.

If you have a decent computer buy it. GTA3 on the PC is infinitely better than the PS2. Graphics are much better, you can edit just about everything, a keyboard/mouse system beats the hell out of a PS2 controller, and they added some nice little touches like the mp3 radio station. Although, be warned, there are tons of horror stories about GTA3 not working, dramatic framerate drops, random crashes, and other problems. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones because it runs without any problems for me at 1600x1200x32 resolution and all settings cranked to the max. I hear there was a patch or 2 released but I never bothered to download them. Haven't seen a single crash or glitch of anykind.

The majority of the problems are video card issues, in other words people trying to play the game with crap cards. That patch didnt really fix that much that was important except a save game bug. There are lucky ones like madmax, whom the game runs great - if it does, it defiantly worth getting

Editing the cars is fun. It worked fine for the most part for me.

I did have initial problems with it using my GeForce2 but downloaded a updated driver and now it works peachy.
Although with basically the same gameplay I would bother getting it for the PC as well just for the improved graphics, unless you can get it at a cheap price.

Athlon or P4/Celery (Sorry, spec freak)
Either way, you shouldn't have much trouble.

Damn my voodoo3 and lack of money. I can't run it well. It crashes often.

I just got GTA 3 (and Command & Conquer: Generals) for PC, and the game runs great no my computer (unlike C&C: Generals). But then again, I also have a 1.5ghz machine with a GeForce 4 Ti 4200. (though obviously my computer specs didn't help much for C&C: Generals. Either that or that game is seriously unoptomized speed-wise.)

No, the P4 1.5ghz really sucks. Any Willamette P4 sucks. It wasn't until Northwood until the P4 could be taken seriously. Well, it isn't as bad as the new Celerons, 128k cache+20 stage pipeline=bad performance.

I like my 1.8GHz P4. Just wish I had something better than a GeForce2.

And why won't you throw your space heater I mean Athlon in too. Well, the value market it on fire with NV31 and NV34 being released and ATI is updating(?) its 9000 and 9500 line so go grab a new card already.

i got it for my b-day last july and origianlly i had a tnt2 with Blew then i got my radeon 9000 and it runs at about 60fps on my athlon t-bird 1 ghz. The problem with me is that i need more ram. 128 doesnt cut it at all, i need at LEAST 256, preferably 512 or so.
I have a freind running cnc generals on his athlon 500 slot A (ROFL) 100mhz front side bus and it runs fine. Not everything max btw but still.

Ah slot A, the backwards slot 1. Never owned a slot processor, stood by Socket 7 all the way. They look like oversized game cartridges with fans.

I'm not buying a new video card until the post-DooM III era.

By that time we'll be using PCI Express video cards.
