These are for everyone else to see as well... http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smilies/cwm1.gif As I was mentioning to Doom Dude in a thread in Rants & Raves, I'm currently in the developing of what has turned into a tc for the Edge sourceport. It's made of 3 episodes, the first one being a reinterpretation of all the Knee Deep In The Dead maps, transformed into a dark, gothic, hellish world...the other 2 episodes are made of original maps. The way I'm designing it is best suited for GL Edge (dynamic lighting and so forth). This is the rendition of E1M1 (Doom 1) I am making...what do you guys think?

The only thing I would suggest is offset the fronts of every other step to break up that repetitive look. Otherwise cool.

This is still in a very early stage, so I'm still doing things everywhere. A lot textures to align, tons of additions I still have to make...ah, I also forgot to mention....I am expanding the levels I am remaking...like this one for example. A lot more outdoor areas will be in the final version, They won't play the used to...they have different exits and they're bigger now (most of them considerably) and some scripting will be invloved too...I'm learning one thing at a time http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif So far I've only done maps 1, 3 and 7 off this episode...which are the ones I've wanted to work with the most. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smilies/cwm1.gif

Sounds cool. I started doing the same with Vile....except for the different exits.

You make any custom textures? Are you changing the weapons and monsters any?

I don't make textures...my talents don't go that far http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/tongue.gif I wish though...I have lots of ideas for textures http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smilies/cwm1.gif

I'm using textures from Quake 1 and some from HeXen as well...like the sky, it's actually a fire texture from HeXen. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif

I'd love to use customs sprites...I've put the Ettin from HeXen already and it's a dream http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/biggrin.gif There are other things I'd like to implement that I've seen in other wads, but I dunno yet, since nothing is final yet. The Ettins from HeXen are cool!

I made my own versions of that cool MesoAmerican floor from HeXen II. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif

I didn't know that was a Sky from HeXen. I need to play that again soon! I was playing that Deathkings jobby in Doomsday but never finished it.

Meanwhile I think what I'll do is put a texture pack together with some tiled floors, a grate or two and some brick walls n stuff and put it on my site. Was thinking about doing that for awhile now.

Man did I ever rip into one of my maps today. I had 2 versions of it and liked different parts in each so I had to do a delete / cut and paste job. Is looking cool now methinks.

I hate being a plain asshole here (then again, I have grown that reputation to be one while reviewing maps), but don't you think that it would be better to kinda like... remake "hellified" episode 1 from scratch instead of editing textures and things?

Well, the "hellified" episode 1 from sctratch is in the process as well....I started doing the 1st map already, at the same time I am remaking the other first episode. True, it is texture/sprite replacements on those maps, but that's not all there is to them. There's much more...lots of new areas are being put into them, making all the maps bigger than what they were and with a new playability put into them. It's gonna be more like an "Episode 0" of sorts, an introduction to the other maps. 3 episodes worth of new hellish/gothic maps with an extra episode thrown in.
