Hey I was wondering is there a program that'll tell you all the items and critters you have in your map? Can Deepsea do this? I'm trying to better adjust items placement in Vilecore to make it more 'interesting'.

Load the level in DeePsea, then press F10 and select "Statistics". Left click or press enter on each panel and you'll get all the details.

Hey Exl, could you write a program which adds the HPs of every enemy in each skill and then works out how much damage the player could inflict with the amount of ammo scattered around (ammo dropped from killing enemies counted too)? That would be really useful for getting the ammo supply just right - it would save so much time in playtesting.

Yeah there does seem to be a demand for it. I was wondering if it would be possible for the program to also list the textures and flats used in the wad. That would be mucho usefull when it comes to porting a map with custom textures from on project to anouther, like what I'm doing now.

Actually, I *have* taken dropped ammo into account, take a look at the doom.cfg file, and look for an enemy. It has DroppedAmmoAmount or something, and then the amount of ammo it drops (in conjunction with DropAmmoType). You can change a lot of the stuff throught that doom.cfg file. Billy Blaze? That's the Commander Keen doll, I believe that was his real name. Take note though that it is a rough estimate, there's no way in hell any program can precisely calculate all that stuff, it depends too much on player movement\aim. Also remember to take a look in the readme.txt file, there's a shortcut to it in the start menu folder.

Ahhhhhh I never heard it called Billy Blaze before. I did read the readme just after I posted last... of course it's a rough estimate like you say. The best guide to how hard / easy a map is, gotta be actual playtesting it. It's good to be able to see what gear / critters and thier amounts are in a map. That alone is a great tool.
Anouther thing that's hard to judge is the ammo / health a player carries over from one map to anouther in a multi-map episode. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/wink.gif

It works the same way as in the map editor, it's only useful to select one of those flags at the same time. If, for example, you select Skill 1\2 and Skill 3, you'll get doubled amounts (both things in Skill 1\2 and 3). It works the same for multiplayer, if it's the only one checked, all you'll see are the 'Multiplayer' flagged things, not based on skill.

I have now coded the same functionality as a Why script. You can get it here (http://www.hut.fi/~jpakkane/why/scripts.html).
It's amazing how much you can achieve with just 120 lines of Python. (although the part of the code that actually does something is only about 30 lines)

It doesn't work on Win2k either. Works fine on my W98Se computer though. Maybe I need to upgrade the VB runtime libraries on the Win2k computer, because I did that a while ago for the W98Se one.

I think I have the problem now, it must be something with the Common Dialog Windows API. The Microcoft bastards must've messed with that after Win98se. I'll fix that thing up and add the capability to check if a thing is in a secret sector and add the health analysis (I'll remove deathmatch, that's pretty mich impossible).

Me was also wondering if it would be possible to add a check box that would subtract the Multiplayer things / ammo / monsters from the readout when you choose a skill lvl?

Ahh, you know what would be cool? A compare function. Like you choose two skills (e.g. HMP and UV) and it will display the thing amounts of the first skill picked with + or - the amount in the second skill picked.
Eg. Reventant 30 +10
Medikit 15 -6
This way you could see the spread between skills.

You gotta show me how you read the data from wad files sometime. That little block stopped me from writing the most advance GUI for ZenNode ever conceived. I've got it half done. School has been taking up some time. But I have added the "secret" thing thingy by now. Downside is, it makes map loading a lot slower. Not unbearable though. I hope to finish it up soon. I shouldn't write short sentences. I should shut up now. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/wink.gif

TRC is cool! I got the new version last night and started tweaking the ammo / monsters in one of my maps and the program has been a great help methinks. I'm also spreading out the weapons / monsters / things in Vile so that you don't get the chaingun till map02 and the blue armor until map04, etc.... so it's been a great help in finding and spacing out the items.
Can you add a 'Refresh' button next to the selected Map: that would reload the current wad your checking out? http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif
Why does it say 'Thing Ratio Cunt' in the 'About' thinghy. LOL.

[edit]Exl I have 3 boxes of shells in my map in HMP and UV. I only have the skill 4 and 5 box checked yet it says I have 30 boxes. Shouldn't it add the mutiplay stuff only when the Multiplayer box is checked? There is 27 boxes in the map for Multi...

The program now works for me on XP Exl, but it's buggy.
Each time I check another skill box the values get multiplied:
For instance on map01, I click on skill1/2 and it reads 8 health potions in the bonus section. I also check skill3 and it reads 16, and then skill4 and it reads 24.

Can I add new ammo types to the TRC's doom.cfg?
My mod has different damage for shotguns(both shotguns have different damage, but same amount of "bullets" fired, expect that the supershotgun is able to shoot 4 shells at once), minigun(fires 3 bullets at the same time, making it look more faster) and smg(uses 9mm full metal jackets). So I need 4 "bullet" damages.
What about armor points for monsters then? I have armored monsters and the different damages do different damage against armored and non-armored enemies.

Heh, I tried some about a year and a half ago. We nearly got killed picking them in the field - a load of cows started charging at us and we had to run like hell through loads of spiky bushes and shit.

Maybe I can compensate the monster health levels for TRC by adding more health than it actually has.

Mess around as much with the doom.cfg file as you like, you can add new enemies too, and change the damage amount to your hearts desire.
I already replaced those checkboxes with a combobox, so you don't need to screw around with that anymore in the next version.
Im currently working on Heretic support, but it's proving to be a bitch since Heretic's thing specs are sparse. And I don't play Heretic enough to knwo about the damage values. If anyone could help?

Monster attacks:
Knight's melee attack: HITDICE(3)
Knight fires green and red axes. Possibility for red axe is 40/256.
Green axe : 2 and wind can affect it.
Red axe : 7
Imp's melee attack: 5+(P_Random()&7)
Imp's "skullattack": couldn't find damage it's maybe just this then: (P_Random()%8)+1
Imp's fireball: 1
Chicken attack: 1+(P_Random()&1)
Mummy's melee attack: HITDICE(2)
Mummy's missile: 4 (Tracer of somekind)
Sorcerer1's melee attack: HITDICE(8)
Sorcerer1's missile: 10
If it's health is below spawnhealth/3*2
then it shoots 3 fireballs.
Sorcerer2's melee attack: HITDICE(20)
Sorcerer2's missile attack: 1
Alternatively shoots 2 wizard spawner missiles, if they hit they do damage: 10
Minotaur's melee attack: HITDICE(4)
Minotaur's missile1: 3, it shoots 4 of them into different angles
Minotaur's missile2: 4, spawns missile3s while it flies. Explodes when it gets destroyed.

If ball2 bounces, it then morphs to ball3.

With TOP mace fires bigger balls(ball4).
