Using gimp and some of the weapons emporium tutorials I have made some weapon sprites but when I tried to load them into wintex they came out inverted colours.. completly forgot about the palatte...
how exactly do you convert the picture into the "Doom palette"? I can load the palette into GIMP but can't do anything from there...

aaaah friggen heck.. I tried changing the sprites to indexed mode using the doom palette, ok lost most of my blues but lets just see if I can at least put it into my WAD, then wintex screams at me that its not RGB.. what the heck..

Have you reduced the images to 256 colors using the specific Doom palette? That's how I did it with Paint Shop Pro.

Tired of crappy Doom editors? So was I, that's why I'm coding my own (http://www.hut.fi/~jpakkane/why/).

You weren't very specific on the images you made, but here's 2 ways to get the colors matched to the DOOM palette.
1. If it's a BMP, DeePsea will import and automatically match/convert colors to the DOOM palette - even if the color depth if 16 or 24.
2. Or if you want to match the colors using PSP, here's what you do.
First get a DOOM palette. You can do this by either exporting any image from the DOOM wad as a BMP and then use the "Color -Save Palette" command or Take an ingame Screen shot or in DeePsea F7- Graphics editor, you can export a PSP format palette.
Now when you open any image in PSP, use the "Color - Load Palette" command (using the palette made above) to match images. PSP has a dither option that is pretty cool and does a good job with many images that otherwise would not look right.
Other graphics tools have similar options.

JASC palettes are nice, just a mere text file.

Right, Im still not sure how to replicate this process in GIMP, and don't want to shell out cash for something that all it does is change palletes for me.. If I were to post the weapon sprites would someone be able to convert them for me??

I use wintex and have windows paint as the default image editor. I copy the image into photoshop and edit it there then paste into windows paint. Believe it or not paint automatically just converts the pallette to the pallete of the saved image (the original doom one) and all is well!
