I'm using Wadauthor and I've a straight-forward question. I want to make a spawn spot without using the John Romero thing. How do I do that? Also, is it possible to make a spawning vat that spawns when a switch is hit -- if so, how? T

First thing: If you're talking about that jobby where the cube flies out and spawns a monster, you just need a Boss Shooter and a spawn spot everywhere you want the creatures to spawn. You don't need the Romero head jobby.

Second thing, you could set up a switch to spawn things with scripting pretty easy. If you're using vanilla doom it's a little trickier but possible. What engine are you using for the map?

I'm using plain-vanilla Doom 2. I just wanted to make what you said -- the switch that spawns monsters.

Then you need to attach your switch to a door. When the door opens, monsters will walk in your general direction so make the door between you and the monsters. Once the door isn't blocking them anymore, they should be able to walk across a teleport line to where ever you want them. So all you need to do is build a room that is only connected by a teeny tiny tunnel so that if the monsters hear a gunshot they wake up.

Or , put them in a distant seperate sector and rename it to a sector you have already *used* a weapon in....(just to awake them)

With what Rellik said they will transport after the switch and tagged line.

Two ways same result http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/wink.gif

Wow, why didn't any of us ever think of that sector packing idea? It's so obvious if you already know about sector packing.

What sarcasm? I'm genuinely shocked. Sector packing is a great idea. Thanks for posting it cause Rellik and I seem to have missed it completely. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif

I was just posting the easiest way I could think of to help out a new mapper. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/tongue.gif I didn't feel like taking the time to spell out all the different tricky ways of doing it. That's half the fun of DOOM editing, finding out all the tricks and traps.

Well, I haven't released a map yet. I'm working on techniques and trying to find a good style. But hey, great Doom 2 reference. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif

Yes, thank you indeed...I had an idea similar to Spamiard's, and this bit of info can help me make come true....I'm new to mapping too, so this comes in handy http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smilies/cwm1.gif
