After 2 days of editing I came up with this beastie! I made 7 newish wall textures and 10 flats plus edited 2 sprites from doom...the burning barrel and the tall red torch. I hope its satisfactory and I have a plan for anouther Deathmatch wad in my brain cell.

Heres a screenie.... Also check out the featured screenshot on the newdoom main page.

Cool. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smilies/cwm35.gif The new graphics are pretty good too! Some of that bit of "sparkle" effect (most noticable on the grid like floor flat in the bright open areas) could be reduced if you smoothed some the small areas of high detail/contrast in the graphic. Maybe by running it through a slight blur filter or something. You won't notice this if you run it in gl mode as everything gets smoothed over anyway.

The level is nice. Good layout. Lotsa space to run about like a maniac spraying lead everywhere http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif Just how I like 'em.

Thanx for the comments / review Stphrz. Might try your texture trick later. Is that theory or practice? http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/wink.gif

Practice. Small areas (ie detail lines a pixel or two wide) of high contrast don't work well in Doom because of the way the software renderer works by removing rows and columns of pixels to scale the graphic with distance. At one point the detail can be seen, the next it's gone.

Yeah I noticed that loss of detail thinghy before but wasn't sure what to do about it. Ok thanx Stphrz will keep that in mind for next map or whatever. I seem to be in an editing frenzy.

Stupid software always screws up out maps, except for one of my levels which was screwy in GL.

Love that level D_D. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smilies/cwm35.gif

Will check it out when I get home from work tonight. Although the screengrabs look good.

Just had a look, very good indeed, show that you don't need fancy Legacy effects to make a good looking level.
Too dam good, means I'm going to have to try hard with my next level, grrr http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/biggrin.gif

I never saw any "sparkles", maybe its your graphics card.

As I said, you probably won't see it in gl mode. Try running it in software and you'll see how the thin bright lines along the edges of the floor flat kinda flash in and out of existance as you move. It's not a big deal, just something I noticed :)

I just had another look at it. The new wood textures are really good. Better than the Doom2 ones. He should redo Templecore using the new textures.

Hey Thanks Big_al. That was my intention...to make a map that looks good without going for the fancy room over room 'HYPE' and such, but thats just me. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/wink.gif

Thanks Stphrz! I have 2 projects on the go...Vilecore2.0 and Deathcore. Lavapitt will be map04 in Deathcore along with my other 2 dm maps plus some others including the Demonic Outpost from Vilecore. Anyhow I will change / tweak the textures in Templecore for that project.

Oh and anouther thing about those 'sparkles'. I find that the bright highlight on the edge of the tile helps make those 'sparkles' in software mode. I will run the darkening tool in Wally over that and try probably do a blending to help fix it.

Played Mystic on this in a deathmatch tonight, plays great.
As usual it was a close run thing with only a couple of frags in it.
