Click the link below! Try em both! If you think the first one sucks, try number two, its better!

Funny how everyone manages their first wads to be better than mine were. Thankfully, mine don't exist anymore so nobody's going to see those. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/biggrin.gif

Anyway, I was surprised at some of the complex things in there. The big outdoor area in the first level was reminiscent of Doomcatraz from Vilecore (must have been all those imps around the outside). The 3D platform lift was neat (although, sticking a normal platform up the middle as a support would make it look more realistic).

Now for the stuff that bugged me. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif Don't worry too much here because the levels I released are still plagued with many of these issues and I haven't done anything about it yet. There wre a couple GL issues, notably the 3d stairs that had no flats on them (weird). I think there was one in the outside part of the first level too. For the most part the textures were good (especially the first part of the second level) but there are a couple issues I have:

1. Sometimes the colours just clash. Something to watch for.
2. The level ought to have a theme and stick with it (can still have variety, but a theme as well.
3. Tall doors. The best trick for those is to set them in the wall by 8 units or so and make the inset part only as high as the door texture. That way you don't get tall, repeating doors.
4. A couple of alignment bugs. The one I noticed was the part in the first level where the lower parts of the wall have wood panels on them. It would make sense to have those textures aligned at the bottom so the panels look right (the top of the wall is just brown anyway).
5. What's a light fixture? http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/tongue.gif I bug everyone about this, but those places need lights to be lit right?
6. The monster/weapon/health balance was a bit off in areas. I kept dying miserable deaths.

Anyway, that's all that comes to mind. Keep making wads and they'll improve as you go. Like I said, they're way more fun than my first wads (which consisted of a couple of sectors and an attempt to make a door).

Ok. I dont think there is any password. I got the idea for the outdoor part from the Hoover Dam level I played. Tried not to copy too much stuff. Never played Vilecore. Well, hopefully I'll edit more soon!

Do you mean that Hoover Dam map for Duke3D? That one was pretty good. Yeah, keep editing. No matter what anyone says, that kind of thing just has to be good for your brain.

Or he could be talking about Hoover Dam by Michael Reed. Most of his maps are excellent.

Not Duke Nukem, I played it on Doom. Wish I still had it to give the man credit.
