Which port is better for editing with? Edge or Legacy?

I never used Edge and I've not messed with the fancy stuff in Legacy yet, but I think it's a matter of which port you like best. Maybe you should try them both.

It depends, if you're gonna do some Doom addons with fancy effects, choose Legacy.
If you need to do complex stuff, like totaly new weapons and stuff (A tc), Edge is the right thing.
Anyway. As Double D and Kaiser said, go on and try them both, pick the one you like most.

I'm trying to make a sorta TC, so I guess I'll use EDGE. I'm starting to really like the DDF stuff. It reminds of dosdoom for some reason http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif

Edge IS Dosdoom, well sort off.
Some members of DosDoom wanted to continue working after that there were some troubles with members and the project got shut down.
So they started edge, since the name DosDoom had allmost nothing to do with what they were working on

It is true that EDGE was created by the same team behind DOSDoom, however the change came from the fact that DOSDoom has reached the end of its life as a project. It was neither purely DOS or purely Doom. Hence EDGE was created.
Trouble with members..? Now thats how rumours start....

I'm my view, definately Edge. Immoral Conduct started my craze with it.

Considering this zombie-thread has been revived...
I've never used EDGE, but it really depends on preference.
For example, Legacy has the ability to create complex scripts and if you're working on a strictly story-based game that has complex scripted functions, (like cameras, etc.) Legacy would probably be the port you would want to use.
But on the other hand, EDGE, from what I can tell, can make very complex levels. In fact, it's the only port, AFAIK, that has both 3D floors and slopes. So if you're looking to make an excruciatingly, intricately detailed game EDGE might be the way to go.
If you ask me, the lead developers of the main different ports should put their heads together, take the best things from each one, and make a super-port. Although, considering different people like different things, they probably won't...
...but a super-port would be cool. :D

No slopes in edge. Also, different ports have different goals, and in many cases are the authors' pet projects.

No slopes in edge.
Oh. Well, damn! That sucks... I thought there were.
Also, different ports have different goals, and in many cases are the authors' pet projects.
That's why I said different people like different things and that a super-port wouldn't happen. ;)

No, that would be Vavoom. It does almost anything but playing it feels weird for some reason.

I've always wanted to try Vavoom because of that, but there's not a Mac version AFAIK. :(
The reason I said EDGE makes detailed levels is because I saw screenshots from a few .wads for it that looked pretty detailed. But then again, seeing some screenshots of .wads in progress for Doomsday, maybe that would be good for level design.
But this is about EDGE or Legacy anyway...
