I have one fairly minor problem with my project. The file sizes are very big. So I'd like to know what people think of this idea.
I've decided to release my TC in parts. The first part will probably be Maps 1 through 6, then 7 through 11 ect. This will help with file size and let me spend more time on the other sections and it won't seem like it is 2010 before I get it out for people to play. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smilies/cwm1.gif
Anyway, tell me what you think/any other suggestions etc.

Have you cleaned the wad file?

Yes I have cleaned the wad file. And the first level (which I am still working on) is around 5.6 MB in size. It is because of those PSX Mp3 files. However when I zip it, it should be less than half that. Does that sound a insane or would that be alright?

Mp3 files will not compress when you zip them (they're already compressed), however any wad files should. Perhaps you could have a "lite" version that doesn't have the mp3 for those without a broadband connection.

Kaiser,
Are you using the PSX music files as well?
And others,
I'll probably have a friend of mine rip them himself and that way each track will be about 2 minutes or so. A general rule of thumb I figured out from downloading those files is that each minute of music is about a megabyte in size (give or take a little). So that way the entire music entry in the TC will only be about 64 MB.
If I split that into 4 sections, it would roughly be 16 MB per episode in my TC. So that doesn't seem that bad really. At least I don't think so. But I'll have to wait until I finish my TC to tell for sure. My friend is also making an entire new texture palette as well as some new scenery sprites for me so that may add up fast. I don't know. Like I said I'll have to wait and see.

Be careful about using new palettes, you'll have to replace just about everything.

Actually I still will have the old textures as well along with new textures. I probably should have clarified that right off the bat.
I am also at a point in my creation of my first map that I'd like to show it to someone to get their ideas about it. Like I've said before I am trying to create a TC that revolves around what the players want to see. I don't know though. Maybe I'll just wait since I'm not nearly done with it. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smilies/cwm11.gif

Have you thought of lowering the bit/sample rates of the mp3? The quality will be reduced, but as long as you don't take it too low the music should still have the same effect.

Put the MP3's in a seperate file, that people don't have to download if they don't want. If you don't alot of people will get really pissed that you made them download a 30 meg zip just to have the music take up 25 meg of space. People get right pissed about stuff like that.

Black Icon: yeah, I am practally just going to use 9 tracks for all levels, I really want to add more tracks, but that just would be impossible to grab for 56k'ers....
it sucks though....I hope there's no size limit to uploading files...

Black, hey I'll help you out with your project now if you'd like. I kind of know what I'm doing now so if you'd like help just ask. Then again I'm not very good so you'll have to be patient with me. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smilies/cwm1.gif

I'm kinda giving sideline help to Doom_Dude already with debugging and stuff. It's fun figuring out all the stuff wrong with Vilecore.
Hey Amy, sounds like you want to make more maps after all. I think I'll play some more with Wadauthor later. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif

There are newer versions than 4.3. I've used 4.5 and I've heard of a 4.7.

If you use MOD or MIDI music you will save lots of space! http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smilies/cwm4.gif

The wintex clean option doesn't work that great.
Try NWT -c yourwad.wad
This one works a lot better!
