What the hell is the scam? How do I get a custom switch texture to work? http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smilies/cwm3.gif

You have to replace an existing set or use a port that allows you to define switch and misc. texture animations.

wintex 4.3 makes it pretty clear, if it doesn't work then it's probably a glitch
it's kinda like a 2 step animation texture(kind of)
when editig the switch texture just treat them that way and you should be fine

I'm using XWE because it's 100% less confusing than that clunky Wintex monster. LOL. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/wink.gif
I'm still experimenting for now but I dunno.

I considered using XWE for my Blake Stone TC, but the thing wouldn't save sprites as valid bitmaps. So I did it the other way with running the program in debug then taking a screenshot of each sprite.

Thats weird because I made new torches and some different trees and stuff and have had no problems. Anyways I figured out how to get my custom switch to work using XWE.
1) Make textures (remember theres 2 textures involved in making a switch) using the names of the switch textures you want to replace. (In my case I wanted to replace SW1SKULL and SW2SKULL) (Oh and these original switch textures are made up of 1 patch each so it makes it easier to replace...)
2) Click on Entry / Load as usual to add the texture bitmaps to your wad.
3) Do NOT right click on textures and 'add to texture' as usuall. (this is where I went wrong the first time) duh!
4) Do right click on each new switch texture and add them to Patch names.
5) Click on the PNAMES file and find the number beside the texture. Remember this number.
6) Click on the TEXTURE1 file and then find the original SW1SKULL (or whatever one your replacing) by scrolling through the list at the right. SEE that number under PID! Change that bastard to your new number.
7) Just to be sure it saves this click on PNAMES and XWE should ask you if you want to save.
8) Repeat for the 2nd switch texture.
9) This shit is easy when you know how. Otherwise you could pull your hair out in trying to figure out whats wrong. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif

Well, that's a hell of a hard and confusing way to go about it http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif
Btw, you probably know that if you just replace a patch with the SAME name and size it's automatic.
In DeePsea, it's about as simple as it gets:
Load your level with the textures and patches:
Press F7, select "TEXTUREx Name Edit". If you want a bigger display area, press the max button - although for normal DOOM size textures you don't need this.
Ok, now you have TEXTURE names in one list and PNAMES in the 2nd list.
If you already have your new patches in the PWAD, just Press Add Patch, type in the name and add it to PNAMES too. If not sure, you can press Browse to see if you have it.
If you don't have your new patches in the PWAD, press Add Patch anyway and use "Add PWAD file.. BMP ..", find it in the Open browser and add it.
To EDIT a texture (left side) to change a patch name or offsets:
Find your texture name, click Edit, type in the new patch name, adjust any offsets, press Save to confirm your changes.
Now press "Save". Choose your PWAD or a new file or any file you like. This works for any level even in the shareware version.
You don't have to know ANY numbers - that's sort of ridiculous http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif

LOL. Well maybe theres an easier way with XWE but it worked for me and I'm happy. Besides XWE hasn't been around as long as your excellent DeepSea jobby. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/tongue.gif
Oh and my explanations are always confusing. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/wink.gif

I never really gave XWE or DeePsea a good test in that department. I knew how to do it with Wintex though.

I haven't a clue where you can get Wintex or how to run the thing. I always found it confusing with that crazy interface. Try a search in Google or something.

I'm not 100% sure I've got the newest version, but you can get Wintex from my editing site. I'm not sure I got much for tutorials for it though aside for just texture work.

oh well, hey what's with wintex downloads not having vbrun.dll?
Doom_Dude

You should be able to find vbrun.dll online if you don't already have it.

I found Wintex 4.7 in a Google search but it was an upgrade without any of the DLL's. I got those from a 4.3 zip.
