I know how to replace weapons in Doom 2, and I will occasionally use Dehacked to change its behavior, but how do some of you create those amazing weapons used specifically for such ports as Edge? I downloaded a new one called Guns PC v1.261, and it doesn't even seem like the weapons were replaced. Its got:

*Really nicely animated fists. How did these replace Doom's fists if Doom's fists contained only a few frames and were all choppy in animation?

*Grenades??!! The grenades actually bounce around, and after about 4 seconds, they explode and send any nearby enemy flying.

*Sniper rifle... how is it possible to include a gun that can zoom in and out, while the others can't?

*Flame thrower that actually lights enemies on fire!

There are more, but I don't understand how this is done. Also, each weapon has a secondary function/gun. I'm sort of a editing newbie, and I only know how to edit by replacing existing things. Can somebody explain this to me?

It's becuase Edge used DDF instead of deh files. With DDF you can change all the things and/or add in new ones.

On a similar note, how do I work with DDF files? Could somebody give me any step-by-step procedures?

EDGE comes with EXTREMELY well made documentation on use. It's all in the download.

And no matter what anyone says, you gotta admit that no sourceport out there offers the same amount of options as EDGE. I can't believe it doesn't get more support. It's just a case of too many sourceports.

Lets sit back for a second and imagine what it would be like if Legacy had DDF's and a scripting language that made sense.

What a wonderful dream...

DOSdoom had the option of 2-4 players playing at once in the same game, and thats even a port.

I remember once stumbling upon a site with a weapons mod for ZDoom that had MANY new weapons....now, I dunno if it replaces the existing ones, but it didn't seem so...among some of the ones they mentioned was double berettas that you actually HAD to reload...and each one had separate ammo counts (ex. 50 on 1 hand, 50 the other).
they didn't provide a link, though, so I dunno how they did it...definitely scrpting, I 'spose.

Man I remember seeing the Railgun in ZDoom for the first time. Quite impressive http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif

Too bad the weapon sucked. Didn't do enough damage, didn't act strong enough or something. I prefer the railguns in Q2 and Q3.

Well browsing through the readme for Edge, I can see why a lot of people do not use it. From the readme file:

Known Issues:
- Multiplayer (networking) does not work. We don't have the time to
work on this at the moment, unfortunately.

Hey Zack, that's unless the railgun is in the hadn of an enemy bot with the Doublr powerup on Nightmare difficulty, right? Man, I'm getting so lose to beating Scornforge on nightmare...

Heh, Quake3 Team Arena. I LOVE those bots man. So funny, the bots respond to each others taunts and sometimes they just start all babbling away at the same time. Guess you'd have to hear it to know what the hell I'm babbling about...

Yeah, I know what mod you mean. It is actually using Zdoom as base, but he coded in the weapons and stuff himself (pure code, no dehacked).
