View Full Version : Saving DDF files?

Right, now to the point. I think I'm starting to figure out this DDF thing for Edge. I opened up the Edge WAD in DeepSea and extracted DDFWEAP.DDF as a lump, so the file turned out to be Ddfweap.lmp. I was able to open that in Notepad or Wordpad and do whatever I want to it. Now, here are my questions:

*How do I save it back to a DDF file once I've made my changes to the text? Am I suppose to just save it as the lump?

*After the above step is taken, what do I do to test the new changes?

In DeePsea there is a special section devoted to handling text files and saving them back into your level. Oriented towards EDGE and another port that uses the level name to store information.

Press F7

Edit Text Lump file: Edits using the text editor selected.

Export Lump to a file: Export a text lump to any file (like Export).

Save Lump File to current level: This saves any text file the level you are editing.

All the above assume you know the lump name.

You could also use the Import/Merge feature on the same dialog to accomplish the same thing. IOW, open your level in Import as the target, then open your EDGE DDF files as "Add Lump Files" and press save.

Or instead of editing them and saving them back into the wadfile every time you can put them in a subdirectory of EDGE and run edge with the parameter -ddf (subdir name). Make sure though that you download the DDF files or extract them and name them correctly with the .ddf extension.

EDGE kicks ass. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif
