I'm sure most of you already know how to do the infinite space illusion, but I've mentioned most of the other cool illusions you can create in DooM, so I might as well do this one too.
First you need a space texture (256x128) which is just black with a load of white dots. Import it into a DooM / DooM II wad so that it replaces the sky graphic.
Create a sector with F_SKY as the floor and ceiling flat (Don't worry about the linedef textures). Make the floor AND ceiling height 0.
Create a second sector inside the first (with double sided linedefs). Make the ceiling height of this sector as high as you want, but make sure that the outside sector stays at 0.
Don't give the linedefs any above or below textures. If you have done it right it should create the illusion of infinite space. The best thing is you don't need any special ports.
You can see this effect in my 'Space Port' wad, when my site is fixed, which should be within the next 2 weeks. Hopefully. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smilies/cwm35.gif

Has anyone else made a wad using this effect?

I think Mystic tried it. It looks cool, like Duke Nukem.

Yes, level 4 of WET PHANNIES has it and an old deathmatch wad by my mate Joe Peat called Eva.wad used it too. The wad Im currently finishing will have it.
I missed all the other illusions, I want them, where are they?

I'm afraid that is a very very old trick.
I can also be used to create outside windows, without having to create a courtyard.

There aren't really that many. There's one where enemies rise through the floor (http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/Forum15/HTML/000120.html), and another strange one where you can telefrag yourself (http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/Forum15/HTML/000130.html).
Boingo also did a technical thread about stacking switches (http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/Forum15/HTML/000139.html), but I don't think anyone worked out how to do it.
I think one of the master levels (Doom95) used switches like that. I'll have a look to see how it works.

Ok, I couldn't find it. I did find one where a door tag is used to reveal a switch, it sounds simple, but I'd just never thought of it.

I have a wad somewhere called something like 'special2b' which has quite a few fancy effects, I cant remember who made it though. Gothicdm, Addictiv and Fetaldm7 also use quite a few neat visual tricks

Lots of older wads have fake 3d floors. They use various tricks. Ambient sounds kick ass too.
