Hey guys, I havn't edited in a loooong time, last level i did was about 2 years ago, and i didn't get very far, it amounted to ONE room full of ammo and guys, it was kinda fun, but when i attempted a door and got HOM error i gave up and di something else, now i want to get back into it and there are alot more editors out now then there were then, what would be a good simple editor to learn on? any input would be good. Thanx guys
Oh and it would be good if it was a free one too, like downloadable somewhere... only because i don't have money to spend LOL http://forums.newdoom.com/ubb/smilies/cwm41.gif

A good idea is to grab yourself at least 3 editors and try them out. Here at newdoom we have a editing files section soCLICK HERE (http://www.newdoom.com/editing.shtml) to go to it.
Personally I use DoomCad 5.1 I've always used it and am so used to it I'll probably never switch. The newer version of DoomCad is 6.1 and thats avaiable on that page, but I didn't like it as much as 5.1.....blah, blah, blah.
A lot of dudes use Wadauthor and you should check that one out since it's well liked. I have no idea where you can get it though.
Theres more but I can't think right now.. http://forums.newdoom.com/ubb/smilies/cwm35.gif

DooMCAD is the editor I learned how to edit on. I denies you some freedom in your editing, but that is actually useful when you are first learning. Once you have your "sea legs" you may want to move on to other editors. I myself continue to use it as my work horse. I usually create my levels with it first, then switch to other editors to make modifications.

Go to the tools section of the Epidermis Emporium.
http://www.newdoom.com/skins/tools/tools.shtml
You will find vbrun300.dll there. Since a lot of older Windows programs use it, it would be a good idea to install it.

Oh yes. There is one thing I should tell you about the DooMCAD tutorial that can be called from the help file.
The tutorial says that DooMCAD starts new wads with a single small room, but when you actually try to start a new level, you will start with two gigantic sectors joined together. The small single sector room used to what DooMCAD started with up until version 4, but was changed to the two large sectors starting with version 5. The tutorial was not updated to reflect this change.
I figured I would mention this, because it can catch beginners off guard. Every thing else in the tutorial should be correct.

Yes boingo, i did notice that, not all that hard to work around, in the tutorial when it needed a single line def i just worked from the side and not the top. Plus it made a nice little step in the room i tried making a floor of 16 instead of 0 and it looked cool (bear with me i'm just starting lmao)

Let me know if those other editors don't do it for you. I'll mail you a copy of WADED, it's the most primitive of editors but it's rediculously easy to use. Monkeys could make maps with it. Well, patient monkeys...
