Are you using Wintex 3.x or Wintex 4.x?

4.x
the one that doesn't use all of those programs.. the stand alone one..

It would be cool to get this Texture Replacing or Adding New Textures to a pwad thingy figured out, once and for all. It's one of those things, I'm sure that's easy for those who know how. If only someone would make a Wintex4.3 texture editing tutorial, that explained the process in easy to understand, step by step instructions.

Hmmm.

I generally create my textures using Wintex 3.4, but I will look into the creation of textures in wintex 4.x for you.

I just use NewWadTool. It's so easy, even a total illeratate can add textures to a PWAD.

I am going to try to update and repair my site over the next few weeks.

In a way I am going to be working blind. the firewall I am stuck behind, prevents me from uploading my changes to the site as I make them. I will have to test all of my changes on my hard drive, then either send the files to William Mull to upload, or try to upload from a friend's computer.

When I do get through with the changes, the site should be as good as new.

Ya, I found it. It's one of those DOS jobbies so I'm keeping far away from it.

Oh well.
If you can't understand Wintex whatsoever, then NWT is a great choice. It's just too easy to foul up.

AT THE TIME, I tried every program under the sun, and nothing was possible for an illeterate like myself to figure out, except for NWT.
I'm so used to NWT's inner workings, I just use that.

Through trial and error, (including the deleting of my wad), I was able to figure out how to make textures using WinTex.
FUN!

What I don't understand is why I can't change sprites in WinTex. They seem to save to the wad just fine, and they even load in WinTex again perfectly fine, too. But once I try it in Doom, the sprite is completely transparent! There's nothing there!! I think this is also why i can't get skins working either.

Zack-

Did you use Deusf or some other program to merge your sprite wad into the main IWAD?

If your using a source port that doesn't require it, then I dunno what's wrong.

Did someone need to know how to add new textures with Wintex 4.2? cuz I can help you with that easy.

Okay, this is everything I know about texture manipulation with Wintex 4.2.

ADDING NEW TEXTURES: Click on the wad you want to add tex's to or make a new wad. A new window pops up listing all entries of any kind in the selected wad. At the top of the window click on ADVANCED.

From the drop down window select Edit Textures, which will pop up another new window.

On the left side of the screen are all the textures currently in that wad, if the wad didn't have any new textures in it, the list is the one from the main DOOM/DOOM2 IWAD.

On the right side of the screen is a list of all the patches in the wad your editing AND all the ones in the main IWAD. You use these to make your texture.

In the center is the list of patches in the texture selected from the list on the left. The buttons are all for moving the patches position on the texture surface.

CHANGING SWITCH TEXTURES: is more tricky. This is for plain DOOMs, not source ports.

If you want to take patches out of SW1BLUE for example, you can't just delete the patch. You have to select the switch TEXTURE in the left hand list, then go to the top of the page and hit TEXTURES and select CUT TEXTURE from the menu.

Now the whole texture has been deleted. Now hit TEXTURES at the top of the page again and select NEW TEXTURE. Type in the exact name of the switch tex and it will be added to the list of textures. Now just change the size of the tex and add patches for your desired result.

No, you can't just paste the texture back in, you have to cut it out and add it back in as a new texture. I don't know why it works, just that it does.

If I've missed anything or didn't explain it well, let me know. Glad to help.
