View Full Version : A Vilecore prob

DD, I finally made it to Ashwall plaza, and i,m stuck. Not all the monsters are coming out. I got 88 of the buggers.

I'm using the latest latest Doomsday unified engine release 1.7.5.

Am I missing something, or should I take it to the Doomsday HQ section instead

Well, I can't really remember. There might be a switch somewhere.

Ashwall plaza is a nice map with a neat name though. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif

I'm not sure at the moment. I doubt it's a JDoom prob. Did you get the wave of Hellknights? There is a timed door in that map that opens a door 5 minutes after starting the map. I don't know if a saved game messes that up or not. Anyhow, directly opposite the fronts of the stairs is a door. After 5 minutes the door opens long enough for the 8 Hellknights to come out. There is also a switch that ones that door but it won't open that way until after the Hellknights are released. I think that's where your problem is.

I'm gonna play it and see where the 88 mark is. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/wink.gif I assume UV mode?

It's funny cause I found the secret exit to that map and I still haven't found the normal exit.

Okay I played through on UV mode to the 89 kills mark. After the first wave you have to hit this switch in the screen and it'll open the closed door in the screen. This is the area I was talking about in the last post.

Aliotroph? there are no secret maps in Vilecore. So there's only one exit in every map. I love secret areas and hate the idea of secret maps.

I'm here.

I was playing on medium difficulty. I shot at it punched it tried to click it.

And I did save & load on that level so think I'll load an earlier save & try to do it in one shot.

Thanks, DD.

Ok Deathgiver! I think that timed door is a problem. Maybe I should change it so you don't have to get in that room. Let me know how it goes.

I'm really guessing here but I think it could be trouble. I never tested it with a save but maybe it's what caused your problem. I can't see what else it could be unless there's a problem with the numbers of monsters on the screen at once. I wonder where they used that timed door in Doom II?

I'll be able to try to make it back to the plaza today. The other saved game was way back in Doomcatraz.

I liked Baron's causeway & Morbid Arena.

But my poor ol' Voodoo 3 didn't care for all the lights (Causeway) or all the monsters at one time (arena).

I'm not saying you need to change those two levels. I just need a faster computer.

The levels were originally made on a p166 with a 16mb VooDoo Banshee card. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/biggrin.gif

You could always noclip into that little room and hit the switch thats in there. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/wink.gif

Of course jDoom changes how much power a computer needs to run a level with its Dynamic lighting & models.

"You could always noclip into that little room and hit the switch thats in there."

Are you referring to the middle section on the wall in the screenshot?

Yeah that's the one. Theres a switch in there that'll drop a wall and you can continue on your way. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/biggrin.gif That's up to you of course..

C'mon guys...

Is it REALLY possible to kill a Cyberdemon with a chainsaw without being in God Mode (the wimpy way)?

...Or was that a figure of speech (a metaphor)?

If you could avoid the RL, it'd be possible.

You have to put the chainsaw on the end of a very long stick and circle strafe. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smilies/cwm27.gif

You might be able to do it in co-op with two guys. You'd die a lot of course so you'd need a lot of chainsaws in that map. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/biggrin.gif

It could probably take a bit of practice, although I have never played Doom in Co-op mode (I'm not into it, but thanks though ^_^).

Co-op is fun but it can be a pain in the ass on a level that's not designed for it.

I know parts of Vilecore are a pain in the ass in co-op. That's because of the narrow corridors in a lot of the maps. I could be fixing that. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/biggrin.gif
