Any joy downloading those wads now?
Hey Double D, can you see if you can download any of the wads from Doom Heaven?

I uploaded a download stats logging script that seems to be causing Aliotroph problems but I works okay for me.

Yeah, it seemed pretty good. I'm trying out Wadauthor now to see if I like that. It's lots quicker than DEU/DETH but there are a couple issues I need to sort out before I can do any real mapping. For example, when I create a column in the middle of a sector, how the hell do I delete the damn thing???

Setting up Worldcraft for the first time can be a pain in the ass. I converted all my Half-Life maps to Opposing Force maps because I wanted to use the xtra gear like weapons and monsters plus the other environment and scripted stuff.....BUT it's not possible to make an Op Force Mod because........Fuck I can't remember but Gearbox has it set up so you can't. I had my splash screen and had my mod appear in the Custom game menu....but even if you start it in Op Force it defaults everything to Half-Life when you boot up the game. So I'm really peeved off about that. My Destination Mars Mod is dead in the water. Oh well.

I was heavy into Half-Life mappin after playing the game. I joined a SP Mod team and I wrote a big document on the new monsters while the leader rounded up a coder and a sound guy. We just got started and I made a list of map ideas for the mappers to use as a guide. It was suppose to be a Mars mod and the whole idea was pretty kewl. Then one day they deciced to make a DM mod called Farm Wars instead. So the mars idea died and the farm thing was more than half done when they dropped it. Glad I didn't follow them on that farm thing. LOL. So I said screw you guys I'll make it myself and I took my Half-Life maps and started to do some different stuff and decided to go the Op Force route cause I liked it so much. Oh well......thats the way it goes. Something might come from my Half-Life editing yet.....at least it was good practise. But now if anybody wants me to join them on a project I always tell em 'no thanx' because I'd rather do it myself and not have somebody else tell me the whole thing is not going to get finished. That sucks when that happens.

Methinks lighting should be easier. Building maps will probably always be fairly confusing because building 3D stuff on a 2D screen is just plain tricky.

That part doesn't bother me. I have enough practice in laying brushes that I find it fairly easy now. But it's all the techno crapp that kills you...like setting things up and finding the best compiling tools and then some error comes up and you delete an entire room to kill it and then you try to get a scripted sequence working and the monster just stands there. LOL.

I started awhile ago making some kewl machinery for Half-Life. I made this experimental, spinning generator thingy in a lab. It looks really kewl but now I don't know where I put the map. I was going to add a 2nd generator that you had to turn on, to power up anouther section of a lab, but never got to it.

In the pub/idgames/historic folder you can find all the zips of the DooM alphas and all the old beta versions (1.4, 1.6, etc) that we weren't allows to have before. You might like some of the graphics from them. Lots of them just suck though.

It's bloody hard to look at the 0.2 one cause it always crashes for no reason. The Press Release Beta has 3 very almost final levels (Nuclear Plant, Unholy Cathedral, Containment Area), but lots of stuff is different. There are lots of slow elevators where stairs and stuff should be. Lots of the effects are more primative and the BFG is really weird.

The really neat thing is the sky. It's that F_SKY1 flat you always see in the editors. You see a sky that shows the mooon without any atmosphere. It actually looks realistic.

Holy smokes. You must like Quake II http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif I was the same way when I first played it. I bought Quake II when it first hit the shelves. I remember calling and calling the store to see if it was in and it seemed to take ages to arrive. The thing is......2 places advertised it in thier flyers about 2 to 3 weeks before it was released (Zellers and Future Shop). :/ Then one day a few weeks before Christmas I walked into Future Shop and buddy was putting it on the shelf. The dude at the checkout said I was the first one to get a copy in the store. I thought that was so cool. LOL.

After what Valve did with the HL engine it's hard to go back to Quake II. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/tongue.gif

Most of their stuff is good, but some of it isn't implemented very nicely; probably cause they had to compile on slow computers or something.

As for Quake on GBA, I'm pretty sure it can barely run DooM.

Some more than others. Some games have very very believable environments. Even DooM looks far more 'real' than Wolfenstein did and I'm not saying that just because it's newer. The textures were better and so were the sprites.

I'd like to see that. I've never even got to play with one of those 8-bit machines. When my dad bought his first computer in the 80's he spent $7000 on the most expensive IBM XT he could find with a whole 640k. I have an okay flight sim for it somewhere though and lots of arcade type games. I also have the first King's Quest game which is awesome.

BTW: How does the match for drawing 3D things work anyway?
