I like playing 1 on '1s with my m8s, but Legacy lags like mad online.

Is there a command such as RATE or NETSPEED that will allow us to set the connection properties.

I host on 64k ISDN and the other players are on modems. However we only send at about 2k sec and have 15% GameMiss.

You need zdaemon for netplay
www.truelights.com (http://www.truelights.com)

Legacy has poor netcode (sorry Hurdler!). Zdaemon is much faster, although not as stable

we know that, legacy netcode was designed for lan game, not internet.

its not that it was only designed for lan but for internet you just need to have a good ping to your server / client.. , (( aslong as you have really good pings like under 80ms all is fine )) - i'v played well a good thousand (no lag) games threw legacy ON THE INTERNET " and not being the server "
so basicly you wanna have at least close to lan pings , dialup users - forget it.. sorry

i just wish the netcode was optimized with client prediction or a way to controll the packet loss so the 56k'r could play also.. = quake 1 netcode.. isnt its source released ?

Not as much fun unless you can see your mates face when you smack him with a rocket.

Which is why split-screen is so damn cool. If only it supported four players......

4 players on 1 keyboard (and 2 mouses) would be hell. But you could always use Doom3D for 4 player split screen.

Ironically, I have so many controllers and ports for my computer that it's not a problem. The biggest problem would be that my screen might be too small for it http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif

does that mean you want dual-screen support into legacy? lol http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/wink.gif
BTW, if you want 4 players on the same computer, you can try the Linux version since you can launch 4 Legacy at the same time. But the problem is that you can't share the keyboard between all the process (your window needs the focus, I think).

I'll have to think of something. Maybe I'll play with the source and see if I light bulb goes off in my head again.

IMHO, the only thing that consoles have that computers never really do is multiplayer on the same machine. Internet is nice, but nothing beats the expression on your opponent's face when you make him eat a rocket. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif

lan are cool for that as well, but you need more than one computer of course
