Doom Legacy is the greatest thing since sliced bread, in fact better than sliced bread, BUT it has one glaring flaw:
>It needs support for Chex Quest!

I'm pretty sure Chex Quest wasnt a doom engine game. From my memory more like Wolf3D. Most likely it was thrown together with one of those of-the-shelf 2.5D game maker programs they used to sell.

If you want Chex Quest for Legacy so badly make it your self. Making maps isnt so tough(note I didnts say good maps). If you're lucky maybe someone will help u leech textures and skins from the original.

Good luck(but why)

It is a doom-engine game, of this I am certin. I used to have it on my pc and remember editing the wad file it had. I also created a doom wad file that used the guns from Chex Quest, I'll go put it on a site right now so that you can download it. I'll be back soon......

Never mind again, you DO have to copy the address to your address bar to download. What is this? The FOURTH reply to my own message, I've got too much free time.

Legacy is the second best thing since sliced bread....zdoom is much better.

ZDoom? The version which crashes every half second? Which got just about none benefits over normal Doom? And which has the most (well, not directly ZDoom's fault, but still Legacy is far superior on this) awful OpenGL support there is, which also crashes every half second? You say it's better than Legacy? Pah, never.

After some tweaking I did get zDoom to play for hours without crashing. And Graphicly its as good as any port out there as long as you dont use the MD2 models. My biggest complaint is that I couldn't play coop for more than 2 minutes until I lost sync.

I'll never understand why zDoom is so popular. I beilive it to be the most used port, and the only one supported on GameSpy Arcade(though never played).

Lets just say I'm glad I found my Legacy...

Thats funny i dont remeber saying 'GLzdoom'.

Zdoom has the best 1 on 1 netcode
CSdoom has the best multyplayer netcode
Legacy has the best...........yeah

Legacy, or at least the last version I played has screwed up rendering which accaly has a lower framerate with your face in a wall then in an open complex area.

Ill go play that new legacy and find some more stupid **** about it.

> You say it's better than Legacy? Pah,

Please not an other ZDoom vs Legacy. It's the right of Toke to prefer ZDoom (even if I don't think it was a good idea to post that here) and as I can see until now he was very fair on this forum. Nobody here can say Legacy is better than ZDoom for everything. If someone like something Legacy doesn't support and ZDoom do, it's quite normal he prefers ZDoom. Maybe Toke just want to see those ZDoom features in Legacy because he believe in Legacy futur and that's why he is talking here on the forum.

You must use wintex.

1.) Open wintex.

2.) Find the "chexguns.wad" file and select it.

3.) Then select merge, then merge pwad into main wad.

4.) This will merge it into your doom wad.

5.) Now just run doom and the guns will be replaced.

(Later, you can reverse this by going back into wintex and selecting restore, then restore main wad.)

For a while I thought that legacy's best feature was its GL, because that was all it had over other ports (they all decided to copy mouse look and skins etc.) but it still manages to impress me with the boom support, SOM's various neat things etc.

The decals get better and better still http://www.newdoom.com/ubb/smile.gif

"For a while I thought that legacy's best feature was its GL... "

That is still correct. Of all the ports I've tried, Legacy has the best OpenGL support. In Legacy I only had to click on it and it started without trouble with extremely nice framerate, while in the other ports I had to configure a heck lot just to make it work, and when the game finally started it crashed my whole machine :-P. ZDoomGL seems to have the worst support, while Legacy has the best, with JDoom coming as a close second.
