... a small program which notify you when a new legacy server is up? That kind of program you put in your system tray and flashes when an event (like "new verser") appears.

If people are interrested by that, I can write one, but I won't do it if nobody is interrested.

Let me know what you think.

Yeah, sure. Why not? A program like that would come in handy.

Why not, that would be good. I've always been wondering if there's a server up or not.

yeah..anything that will help with the server side of things would be great...the more programs out to make life easier the better for everyone!...besides you could always add to it so that it has more options later on, making it even more useful.

Not if it takes away coding time from legacy.... also a systray whatsit wouldn't be very portable http://www.newdoom.com/ubb/frown.gif

Of course it will take a little time on Legacy development, but I asked that question because I was annoyed to refresh my browser to see if there were Legacy users currently runnning a public server. But don't worry, I don't think it will take me a lot of time to do it. No more than one week-end (not full time of course), and as someone said, I can start with something basic and the put more advanced features in the futur.

I talked about windows system tray because I know how to to that for Windows, but of course, I'm open to ideas for other OSes. I know we can do something similar with KDE but I don't know how (well, I haven't check the doc for that). As the source code would become Open Source, we might expect one will port it to his favourite OS !?

In my opinion, the Launcher should reside in the system tray, and have that feature. Making diffrent programs kinda takes the tidyness of Legacy away.

I know I am griping, but we need a Legacy dedicated server mode.

Hehe funny Monjey you talked about implementing it in the launcher since I had the same idea when I was in my bed last night. I think it make sense to put that feature in the launcher.

Incorporating it into the launcher is a good idea. I personally don't like having systray programs, perhaps make it optional to have it dock to the systray?

As for porting it to other systems, that is of course a good idea and the launcher would be more portable than a systray program.

I have an idea! Since the master server provide information to games that is currently playing and how many players, and the wad currently being used in the game.

I am thinking that maybe have an extra feature that if you are looking for a certain player, say, I'm looking for Spinal, my launcher will go through all the games and tell me where Spinal is playing, or if he isn't playing. Another idea would be if I want to play in that level, but wondering who is playing. The launcher will say Boingo and Monkey is currently playing in the game, I'll just join. Good, no?

Kinda like "buddies" in gamespy eh? Good idea...
You'd have to make the launcher automatically load with the wad on the server you have selected, etc, the way the csdoom launcher does it.
