Please dont respond to this post telling me that something i suggested has already been suggested or used.

The ability to add more weapons without replacing the old ones. Use other #'s or have it like the shotguns where you have 2 weapons on the same #

MP3 or mod music. Have the option to use a small text entry to set the same mp3 to more than one map without inserting it twice so you can have high quality music on all maps without making your wad to large.

Have the option to use the origonal mouse instead of that damn accelerated mouse speed.

Have the option to add new funtions to the controll setup menu. If you make more advanced weapons with clips or something you can set a button you reload like in Goldeneye for N64. That is just an example of how this option could be used.

The ability to force gameplay settings with your wad. Some wads are designed without jump or free look, this option would make it so you cant jump or use free look in these wads.

The ability to rotate floor textures. The way duke3d did this was it aligned the texture to a wall you selected.

True client/client netcode. This would only be good for 1 on 1. Unless you have a good ping there is no way to get a 'fair' game 1 on 1 with any of todays ports. Zdoom has client/client net code but player1 has more lag if you use a tikdup and without dup the game plays slower. I am not suggesting that you replace the old code but add more net play options.

Change or add the option to change the players jumping height from 32 to 48 so that if someone wanted to they could jump over rockets/plasma streams.

add the option to use a different wad during gameplay from the console

add the option to add jumping frames if someone wanted too.

add the option to reaplce certain items or make items ungettable with a console command, "allowitembfg 0" maybe (Please dont respond to this post saying the BFG is part of the game and shouldnt be removed or anything like that. I know this but some people would still like to play there favorite maps without certain items and without having to edit the wad)

Make a wad editor with all the options of the legacy engine built and the build engines method of creating sectors. Visual editing would be nice too so that you can instanly see your map with textures and without having to compile the wad and have the ability to adjust floor/ceiling heights, textures offsets, textures, and sprites while in 3d mode.

I just want to say those were good ideas. They would get Doom up to the level of cutomizability of Quake and UT, and without overly complicating or ruining the gameplay. I'm all for improving upon the engine at the expense of losing compatability. As long as it still works with old mods/hacks of course.

Adding weapons instead of replacing them is definately important to the 'nextgen' Doom mods. While most mods should replace all weapons, some may be more logical as an addition to the current weapon selection. This would allow you to use the 'FurureWeapons' mod and at the same time use the 'Thor's Hammer' addition, allowing for endless variations of the Doom gameplay. Then you just bind Thors Hammer to a key in the newly created option in the menu. I think this would require a new file format to replace .DEH files. Or you can adopt the new standard that other ports like jDoom uses(I cant remember what its called)

I also agree that all of Doom's items and actions should be able to be disabled in a individual basis. This includes individual weapons, health, armor, jumping, running, walking, heck even strafing(Doom guy riding on a donkey).

As far as playing MP3s i'm not so sure. I like Doom's music as it is. Plus its small and CPU effecient(I would guess anyway). Also I think it would premote low quality music in wads. I do think that users should be able to manually pick music tracks from the interface though, and maybe play your favorite MP3s too(but it would be totally isolated from the default music in the mod)

One thing thats been bothering me since my re-interest in Doom is being blocked by opponents, teammates, and monsters. There should be an option to turn of collision between bipeds. One person standing in a hallway wouldnt block me if I wanted to get past, and if I was trapped in a corner by all but the largest monsters I would be able force myself past and start fighting again. I think there should be on option to toggle that on and off.

And one suggestion about the Laucher. You should be able to save all your settings as a game type, like I used to do with QuakeOn(Its funny that I said used to about Quake when Doom is even older). An even better soloution would be to intergrate the Launchers funtions into the game menus, including game paramaters like pwad, wad, hacks, and also change multiplayer options and join games ext. Then playing Legacy would be the same on Windows, DOS, Linux, or maybe Indreama some day(a upcoming set-top box and game console that fully supports freeware and mods!!)

In summary, I think that the members of the Legacy team should push for as many options and as much customizability as possible. If you fixed a few more bugs and added all the suggestions here, Legacy would be able to compete with UT and Q3A commerially, and its not a commercial product. Doom could end up back in the limelight, and give the gaming industry a real kick in the pants. People may rediscover a long lost equation:

PERFECTLY SIMPLE GAMEPLAY + TONS OF MONSTERS + FRANTIC TEAMPLAY + SKILL BASED DM + EXCELLENT GRAPHICS - ENDLESS LOADTIME - REISTALLS - CAMPERS - WINDOWS - CRAP = D 0 0 M

One comment and one question for the Legacy team:

MD2 models are ugly, blocky, and totaly out of context in the Doom world. If you want to make Legacy look kool make higher resoultion sprites with more animation frames and more viewing angles. You know like Wing Commander.

How much of the Doom source is left in there? The graphics, sound, and network code is brand new at least. Its not even using raycasting anymore right? Cant you just release it as a seperate freeware product then Doom, without any of the original graphics and sound? Just make it a new game with new maps and graphics that can play all the old WADs, even the Doom ones if you want? I'm sure no one would care, just look at WolfenDoom, GoldenEye Doom, and the countless abanden warez sites that offer the full doom and doom2 wad files.

I think that #1 on there list should be to offer several types of netcode. there are alot of people that dont have any local players and only play over the net. If people dont like the net code the wont play it. They will go play zdoom or csdoom. If it had client/client that is best for 1 on 1 as well as client/server for multy and the abilty to put up permenant servers where you could join games in progress it would kick everything elses ass. Other ways of playing over the net are too buggy and it doenst look like they are going to be fixed. I hopeing someone will fix legacy since it has 3d floors and **** . There current net code sux and i wont touch it.
