I was posting in a different post when i thought of this...most source ports concentrate on graphics, but what about sound?
-if you play the playstation version and shoot the double barrel in a confined space you get a cool confined sound, similarly in a big hall you get it echoing-and what about 3d sound,if somebodies got 8 speakers or something on thier pc (?) then it could be programmed to make the sound go all around, such as the sound of the spider mastermind walking, hes behind you!
-well,i gotta post another new thread now, like newbie lamers saying:'thiz iz mi kewl wad'-and then thier next post:'how do u make kewl wad'
------------------
im gonna go over the wall-i dont understand this bit at all,its like a b-movie,cheap peice of scenery

Hehe, as everybody here knows, we are not god for sound programming at all. Maybe I'll give a glance at OpenAL. But well, I think I've some other things more important to do. And I'm not sure someone in the current developer team wants to put lots of effort in sound programming. Don't you think a good client/server is beter than good sound effect?
Just my opinion

Unfortunately, DooM sounds are only 8 bit mono, and they aren't very high fidelity. Even if echos and other effects were added, they still wouldn't sound as good as CD or MP3 quality sound.

This reminds me...
When I fire a Super Shotgun in any game mode of DooM Legacy, the sound changes. It is wierd. Its like it gets higher...bah I can't even describe it. Anyway, I have a Creative Lab's Sound Blaster PCI-120 running on Win2K.

"I quickly jumped onto the other side of the fence, assuming there limited ability to make a vertical incline would save the day. I was wrong. It seems that, just as my confidence grew that I was saved, the midgets had me bested. Wings they grew, and what wings they were. There shirts ripped, and wings erected from there backs. Now there were 20 bald winged midgets that must have each had a 7 foot wingspan. I certainly ran, hoping that they could not fly faster than my sprint, but yet again I was proven wrong. The scalps glistened as they flapped faster and faster, gaining on me every second. My heart raced, and I began to feel weary. I was surly tiring, and I was going to be there furry feast. I pushed on for another 60 feet, fell to my knees, and passed out."
