You can use a standard program like Paint Shop Pro to draw the pictures like the player sprites and the weapons, and then u use a program like NWT or Wintex to insert them into a wad file

You can find Paint Shop Pro v 3.12, Wintex 3.4, and Wintex 4.2 on the Epidermis Emporium site in the tools section. Unfortunately, I have not been able to make up a skin making tutorial yet, and I won't be able to for some time, since I am currently off the net. (This message is being posted from a computer at Queen's University). I have included an html version of Dennis Fabrice's skin specs on the site, although if you downloaded Legacy, you already have it in text format with the other docs.
I will add a skin making tutorial as soon as I am able to.

Thanks. What about any good 3d rendering programs. Ive tried truespace v1.0 and it has too many bugs. I have been drawing sprites by hand but it takes to long. I need something that can give them a more 3d look with out having to lose precious time that could be spent on other aspects of the tc im working on. Your right though i do need paint shop pro windows paint sucks.

You can get a program called blender that makes 3d models, and it comes highly recommended. You can probally get a trail version of 3D Studio Max, but it only lasts for 30 days so unless you are planning on something illegal you'd have to be fast!
Check out www.polycount.com (http://www.polycount.com) for some handy tools and tutorials.
Good luck

www.polycount.com (http://www.polycount.com) is *the* site to check out
Although I've been doing a lot of Q2 modeling and recommend the following:
Quake Model Editor (Qme -sucks but its simply and easy to use, esp making md2's for DOOM source ports)
NST (for skin mapping)
Quake2 Modeler - open an md2 from NST and export it back to md2 so as to properly 'link' the skin to the model
3D Studio MAX + Character Studio 2.5 or 3.0 - a bigger, complex proggie, though its the end all in game modeling right now (maya aside)
Links to these programs can be found at polycount, and ZDoomGL even uses some md2 models from the Generations Q2 mod if you'd like to see how this stuff works.
