Trouble with patchfiles

Hi guys,
first of all a thousand thanks all to guys that make Legacy real: You guys really rock!

My problem:
I want to upgrade my DOOM2 to V1.9.
I use a .WAD V1.666 restored from a crashed CD-ROM with cdrdiag. All the upgrade-patches (I tried 3 of them) don't work.
I think it is the file-date which is 23.11.1999( the day I restored them).
How can I find out which version of DOOM2 I have and which patch I have to use?

So it's the WAD file that fails to be updated? Not any other file, like say, the Doom2.EXE ???
because if the EXE isn't updating u can just specify a command like -ignoremissing and move the exe file to another folder so that it continues updating all the other files... (Doom Legacy doesn't need the doom2.exe, but only v1.9 of doom2.wad...)

Another guy postet on doomworld.com a way to patch all the files and it works.
On http://www.clanvile.com is a patch which does all the stuff for me.
