View Full Version : Need mappers for
Slyrr

Slyrr here.
Some of you may know me from the work I've done doing 3D models of the monsters for Jheretic, including the Maulotaur, D'sparil and others.
It's getting to the point now where all the monster models (and most of the map models) will be finished. Once that is done, I may need help for a NEW project.
Many of you may also know my gripes that there hasn't been a better end-boss since D'sparil, and my whining that he should be brought back for another game. So I sumbitted the idea for NEW MONSTERS to the Doomsday project leader and he seemed interested in the idea.
Yeah, that's right. I said NEW monsters. I had an idea for a "Heretic3" game with new maps, new beasts, and featuring the return of ALL three Serpent Riders to Parthoris.
Sound interesting? Follow this hyperlink to a page and read up on the whole thing:

As you can see, I have a LOT of ideas, but the only thing I'm really qualified to do is make the models and do the animations. Jakko has said that he would be willing to help import my new beasts and even program their 'powers' into the game.
But I'm not a mapper. I tried it once. It turned out awful. So I ask for help. This idea would replace not just one, but all three episodes. And we'd need a lot of nice maps to make it work.
If there are any mappers out there who would like to take on a mammoth project like this and get something really special ready for Heretic's 10th anneversary next year, let me know.
The project is still a little way from starting in earnerst. There are some more Heretic1 objects and such to model first, and I'm also participating in the "Make Something Unreal" contest. But soon, I should be ready to start making the new beasts, and I have several concept sketches whipped up already.
Post here if intrested, and PLEASE, if you don't think you can follow through, then don't bother. Nothing is more annoying than someone who volunteers to do something then quits half-way through because 'he's too busy'.
Only hardcore heretic fans who love the game and want to see a kick-@$$ sequel need apply. The guy who did the ICE heretic levels would be great to have on board...

Cool! Visit the web link on the post - I've got the 'ideas' for episode1 at the bottom of the page. That's all they are - ideas. I have no idea how to 'make' these maps, let alone how to compile them into an episode, but I hope someone out there does.
All I ask is that the maps be given a roomy feel - not 'barren' roomy, but open enough so that they don't feel as tight and claustrophobic as some quake1 levels... Of course, detail and realism are a plus...

Greetings... My name is Bladerunner... a "Heretic" by nature...and now that the Quake 3 engine source code has been released ...

There might be a possibility to recapture that magic moment yet once again one more time before we face that actual death for the last time...
I hope some of my Elven brothers heeds the call to arms yet once again to help fight this "Evil" that even now approaches our borders as I speak...

Exellent idea Slyrr!
I'd be very glad to build one citadel-type gothic map for your project.
I have around 3 years of mapping experience.
To look at all the projects that I've worked on or am currently working on, just go here:

The history of the Elves to the present...
This is long and most of you whom played the earlier games...know it well...this is for those whom
never had the pleasure of playing them and to give them the full scope that led to Heretic2...
......
the story... First came the Heretic
Part 1
Most know the tale of the unknown sithe warrior in Heretic whom we later found out his name was Corvus...
whom we first meet in Heretic...
......
Then came the Hexen and the story continues:
The Story As We Know It...
Heretic chronicled the adventures of a heroic elf who challenged the forces of D'Sparil, the weakest of
three dimension-traveling Serpent Riders. His victory was hardly insignificant, but while he battled D'Sparil,
the other two Serpent Riders were far from idle. They were hard at work sowing the seeds of destruction in several
other dimensions. One such dimension is Cronos, the world of Hexen: a human world, but one where the forces of magic
are both stronger and more strictly controlled than those of the Elven world.
.....
Then soon after we see Hexen2:
The Chronicle of Deeds:
It was precisely one year ago that Eidolon came to our world of Thyrion. On the evening before his arrival, a
rain of fire streamed down from the sky, scorching citizens and buildings alike on the four continents of our fair
planet. By dawn the populace was fearful and demoralized, and they fell quickly before the march of Eidolons vile
Golems. The attack was bold and carefully executed. All four continents had fallen by midday: a sad tribute to the
withered resistance of our four mighty nations. Even now I am shamed to think of it.
.....
then comes... The Portal of Praevus:
After the fall of Eidolon, peace slowly crept out of its hidings in the torture rooms of Blackmarsh castle. It
was long since the first arrivial that the denizens of Thyrion could rest, but now that the last of the Serpent
Riders was demolished, they could. Or at least they hoped...
.....
and continues on with... The tale afterwards - Heretic II
Heretic II - The Story:
The tale of the Sidhe Elf (corvus) which destroyed the darkness of D'Sparil.
...As the earth tremored within the horrifying screams of the dying D'Sparil another portal was opened. It was the only
one within your sight, and you had no other choice but to walk through it. You walked wearily through the portal wondering
where its mystical flow would take you, and as you steped through the portal, the Dome of D'Sparil fractured under his
defeat, shattering into a thousand peices and letting the warm water of the ocean, that was held back so long, rushing in
with unknown force.
.....
and finally we arrive at the gates of our future... From the Journal of Sierman:
"I have seen it. There has been a great disturbance in the heavens. One night in my observatory I was looking upon the stars when I saw a great incantation far to the south, beyond the Forgotten City of Ice. The High Priestess, who saw it as well, and I agreed a fortnight ago to dispatch a handful of scouts to learn of the origin of the sorcery, only to find them return a week later, unable to go beyond the southern most harbor. The citizens there refused to allow anyone to cross the Straits of D'sparil to the Forgotten City of Ice, apprehensive of a divine consequence.
The flashes in the sky have become worse. Images can be seen in the midst of twilight, causing panic in the homes of peaceful Andoria. They appear more often, now having gained the attention of Silverspring, and both the far northern cities of Vorn and Thurge. Days ago, a peaceful wandering Caurthorian entered my observatory, frightened, for his village on Harpie Isle was destroyed by a plunging ball of flame. When the survivers examined the remnants of their village, they found objects of quandary, not of Parthoris.
Corvus, the slayer of D'sparil, and ridder of Morcalivin's plague, has acquiesced to make the journey and learn of the source of this bizarre phenomenon. Tales are heard from the southern harbor of sights of eccentric beings seen across the strait. Whoever or whatever they may be, I bid Corvus farewell, for his quest may be ill-fated."
- Siernan

It is now up to us to make it happen... can we bring all of our children into one Vast Ending Story...together...
