View Full Version : No one using Master, nor Coop server?
Maie
June 25th, 2002, 02:32 PM
On earlier threads it was requested for someone to start, and maintain, a Doomsday Master Server other than the default.. I have been for the past 2 days now, and, additionally, kept a Doom2 Cooperative server registered on that Master.. Durring that time frame, there was not one request to either view the master list, or, join the active game.
-Is there anyone here that plays jdoom online anymore?
Maie

With my system, setting 0 as the port to connect to master.. IE, permitting Direct Play to detect.. Doesn't work, and, the return is always null. If anyone else is having this issue, try using port 10123 imediately instead of querying first.
Just as a repost.. Master is at 66.1.2.234:10123. If you CAN'T connect, please post here. I am logging trafic, if there is a specific issue not related to your system I shall try and rectify it.
-I'd prefer not to post the Game Server's address, as, that'd permit bypassing tests.

Update..
-There appears to some routing problems, server will be taken down for 10-30 minutes to investigate.

Both servers back up.
Master has been changed to port 24500. Dynamic requests are no longer accepted..
-Any replies regarding connection would be appreciated.

Heh.. I finally got an account here, this is my 3rd try..
Anyway, I got the list of servers from your master back when the port was 10123. I saw the coop game but it told me it had a different IWAD and wouldn't let me join.
I tried to create a game and inform your master, it said it successfully connected yet.. I don't know.. nobody joined..
I have NEVER been able to succeed in playing Jdoom with someone over the net. LAN works fine, but internet, nope. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/frown.gif

Now that you switched ports I cant get a list from your master anymore..
Kiwi777
June 25th, 2002, 05:29 PM
Nevermind, I had to change some router settings
I can connect to your master and recieve the list, though I still can't get on your coop server.
I still have the "IWAD different" error, and after trying to connect in my console it says "net failed"

Alright.. I shall be looking into it, don't know why it's occuring though. Glbsp were the only thing that could've changed the structure. Is there a way to dissable integrity checks?

June 25th, 2002, 06:00 PM
I really don't know anything about that stuff.. :P
Hmm do you see anything that shows that I'm connecting to you? I hosted my own game and informed your master, it said on my side it was successful, what do you see on your side?
Maie
June 25th, 2002, 06:18 PM
You currently have a game running? No, doesn't appear you are registered..

So is there a server up yet?
Maie
June 25th, 2002, 11:56 PM
Xbnmx, the master is up, and working fine.. There is an issue with connection to the Doom2 server. Apparently clients are not recognizing it as running the proper IWAD.. I have been seeking a workaround for the past few hours. I, myself, can connect fine.. Others can't. Might need someone to ship me their release of Doom2, and see if there is litterally some difference.
Maie
June 26th, 2002, 12:09 AM
Alright, believe the issue might be allieviated. Can I get someone to test and report?

I play Jdoom with my friends all the time. Usually I host because I have a good upload speed. I have Ultimate Doom, Doom II, and Final Doom.
You people name the place and time...and I'll be there. I can be reached on AIM. My SN is BAHN YUKI

You're just running regular old Doom2 1.9 right?
xbnmx
June 26th, 2002, 02:38 PM
No we're running jDoom, and I get the mesage but I join anyway lol, and it works fone...
Kiwi777
June 26th, 2002, 02:50 PM
>_<
I know you're running Jdoom.. but I meant the game version.. IWad is like, doom2.wad right? Or is it something else?
If the server was running Jdoom but with doom2 1.666 then obviously that would be the problem.
Does Jdoom even work with older versions of Doom?
Maie
June 26th, 2002, 03:06 PM
I seem to have version 1.9.... However, there is a problem. I don't know where I lost the installation disk (Just copied the wad off an old 386), thus, I cannot repatch if there were any corruption, or, other alterations to the levels that I don't remember applying.
(It could be that a map "might" have been mannually edited due to runspeed being effected by system performance, thus, rendering one map impossible to complete.. Not possitive.)
-Will most likely end up repurchasing and downloading the game later.
Maie
June 26th, 2002, 03:31 PM
Alright.. Redownloading Doom2, shall try to host again in the next 20-30 minutes with a clean IWAD.
Maie
June 26th, 2002, 04:41 PM
-Update.
Yet more problems.. The repurchased version is 1.666b, and, I cannot find a way to patch it... Just searching rapidly for the 1.9 wad now.
Maie
June 26th, 2002, 05:04 PM
Claims to have sucessfully patched now.. Normal Doom2 Engine reports version 1.9, don't know if that means the level structure has been updated though. Have to wait again and see if someone gets in. Sigh. If this doesn't work, have to try with Doom1, which, I am shure is up to date correctly..
Kiwi777
June 26th, 2002, 05:24 PM
I still get the IWAD error...
You said the server is dedicated correct? Have you tried creating a non-dedicated game and seeing if someone can connect?
xbnmx
June 27th, 2002, 03:06 PM
I use Doom 2 version 1.9

The master has been left running.. As, it were confirmed functional. However, the cooperative server was removed since connections could NOT be completed sucessfully.. Kiwi777 and I performed numerous tests and deamed it impossible for the time being.
However, there appears to be a temporary solution. Kali has become a free service. Since their offices for registration are closed, anyone can sign up for a free account. Kali encapsulates and compresses IPX communication, and, "on my tests", runs well in Doomsday up to 320ms pings. The hosting of a Kali public server costs money.. However, I might consider setting a private (unregistered) hub up for the fellow remaining doomers here.. (www.kali.net)
Kahn is also another free alternative.. However, since the process is dependend on VXD's, it can only be ran under Win9X based OS'S.. (www.kahncentral.net)
NOTE:I don't believe there are enough left without NT or WineX now for Kahn to be a real option.
And, of course, there is the absolute last resort.. A VPN connection could be used if there were no other way.
If anyone agrees to go through these troubles for a game before I've any means of easily negotiating a session with others.. Feel free to message me on ICQ, and, perhaps we can get one going.
Maie

-Wrote Kali Support inquiring the possibility of attaining the necessary server software, so that a customized private hub could be generated.. I am also requesting their adding the Doomsday Engine to the supported applet list, to ease configuration. (As things currently stand, some mannipulation of Kali is necessary to get jdoom running properly.)
-Considering the possiblity of just using an already existant public, IE.. Hosting a jdoom server within the Half-Life hub and trying to stay connected, such that, anyone performing a local search in Jdoom while connected would be capable of joining.. Not entirely decided on my next action yet.

Okay, so what is the official, working, master address and port?
I've been successful in playing TCP/IP games with my friends by hosting a game on my computer, and having them connect directly to my IP address to play. However, they're not on all the time, so I'd like to be able to get a list of servers from the master to play. Except, whenever I click the button to get a list from the master, it always shows up blank. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/frown.gif
I've tried both the original one in the multiplayer section of doomsdayhq.com (137.226.156.135) using ports 0, 10123, and 24500. And I've tried using those three ports on the master address in this post (66.1.2.234). Nothing ever shows up in the list, and I have clicked the button to get the list several times. :S

I had an ordeal with sprint, as, they shutdown my tunnel as of yesterday.. After calling, and in a most polite manner asking (heh), the master is running again.. However, I could not get the initial address of 66.1.2.X back, as, that subnet has been removed..
The new master address is 66.87.146.166:24500, if there are still problems after this, please message me on ICQ or here so that I may complain.
-There are rarely registered servers on the Doomsday Masters.

So the in-game master is back up for both DM and Co-Op?
Maie
June 29th, 2002, 03:54 PM
In game master is back up, yes.. Kiwi777 and I mannaged a network game today after enshuring he'd the proper portmappings set. Thus, additionally, the Cooperative server is back running.

I am trying setting a higher than normal stressmargin, and, decreasing the tic interval. If this produces unacceptable gameplay (IE, if you have over an average 56k modem's pings), let me know.

Ah, with that new Master Server IP Address, a game is showing up on the list. But I get a different IWAD error also... Not sure which game the server is running, I had originally tried with Ultimate Doom, and then I tried Doom 2, but I got the same message with both...
DOOM.WAD - CRC32: bf0eaac0 / Size: 12,408,292
DOOM2.WAD - CRC32: ec8725db / Size: 14,604,584

So what's the curent master server Ip and on what port?
Maie
July 1st, 2002, 03:32 PM
There is additionally another problem i've been experiencing..
(I believe this to be the reason there seem to never be games listed under any masters.)
-A Doomsday Server, if, it looses connection for "any" reason with the master, will fail and NOT retry. If this of course happens, then the fact it is still running is meaningless.. This has happened countless times to me, and thus, I have recently submited a bug report. Hopefully this will be considered a high priority, and, an update issued soon.

xbnmx, I've posted all changes to the Master's address.. However, I suppose I can repost.. Yet again.

Any updates? Why not put the pre-release on the server? It has network code bug fixes and you can adjust the tic and packet settings...
