View Full Version : What happened to the retexturing projects?

On the Doomsday website's links page, there are several (broken) links to sites that it says are projects to retexture games like Doom and Heretic with new high resolution textures. I was wondering if those projects are just completly dead (I can't seem to find a working link or other website.) Even if they are dead, did they ever produce even some incomplete files?

Also, I was wondering where I could find detailed information about replacing textures using jDoom. I'd like to replace just a few of them myself if it's not too complicated to do so. It might be pretty nice to have high resolution textures in these games.

I'm sure that's in the documentation somewhere, but I was completly unable to find it...

If you extract the hires textures into the doomsday/data/jdoom/textures folder the game will use them. However, I have found that in my case it only seems to use a few of them, in documentation for jdoom it mentions something about the textures having to comply with correct naming or something. I would really love to know what to name the textures to so that they would all work in the game...

If anyone has an idea about this I would appreciate it.

BAM, I SUSPECT that it just means keep the texture files named the same thing as the textures in the wad. Get NWT (New Wad Tools) or something like that and open the wad file with the texture you want to replace (probably you want the IWAD in most cases.)

Mainly I was just worried that you had to write a DED file or something like that, which I wouldn't be able to do probably.

Deathgiver, I'll check that out. Thanks. When I couldn't get to them through any means and the archives were so old and useless I had worried that the sites died a long time ago.

EDIT: Ok, I checked it out. They are all back up, but I'm disapointed to report that only the doom project has actually released anything.
