well, it seems my last topic sorta just died.

that's okay, though, and i wanna thank the people who replied. i have a coupla options to fall back on, but i would still like to know how to properly change the wad files from within dlaunch... if anybody out there has done this (without the batch files, and w/out using the MyDOOM frontend app-- which i am still considering), could you please tell me exactly what you did, or how you have your game set up? i use dlaunch, and i currently have all four basic wads (and the gwa conversions, too) in the jdoom directory. if someone out there could please advise, i would be very much grateful.

p.s. i also hope i don't sound *un*grateful for the info on the .bat files and the frontend app, cos i'm not! every bit helps.

right click on the iwad in dlaunch, and choose the one you want. Or use the king's frontend, which is much better than dlaunch, and you can select the iwad from a dropdown list

i have to ask, though... should i get a dialog box where i have to "open" the file [i.e. dictate a path to the IWAD] when i right-click it? that's what i always get. and if i change it in this way, the game won't run. also, should i not have the wad files in the jdoom directory? back when i first installed, that was the only simple way i could get the game to run.

oh, and one last thing, for the king's frontend app... should i get the newbie download, and then the build 22 update? and does it interfere with my current jdoom install, or does it just work in tandem with it if i use it in place of dlaunch? there should be a bit of deja vu here for anybody who read my last post on the last topic i started (pretty much the same subject). sorry about repeating myself...

i'm feeling more than just a bit stupid here, because i just can't seem to get this to work!

thanks!

You should get the KING one of course, the newbie only contains Doom shareware IWAD
Then you should upgrade to build 22...or better, psst, look for the upcoming 4.0 version: http://kdx.kingdoom.ath.cx
You will only need to download the ..pre_internal_full one ;-)
Just replace your orginal kdfrontend.exe
with it, it will also remove the nagscreen.

and does it interfere with my current jdoom install, or does it just work in tandem with it if i use it in place of dlaunch?

It does not affect that, because it will use its own organisation of files. Be sure to read the user guide first. This is necessary ! It is a complex application for sophesticated use.

Sorry, but I'm really busy...If you got yourself some knowledge on the stuff...
spread it !
...and better use the forum on http://kickme.to/theking, if you do, there is not so much relay.

Kind regards,

i am very grateful to everyone who has replied, but i am nearly to the point of pulling out what hair i have left... nothing i try to do to change the IWAD does anything but make the game crash. i can get it to work using only doom.wad. if i change it, it always diplays the message "doomsday.exe: no such file or directory." i've tried it with the wads in the jdoom directory, and with them in their own folder. i've been given suggestions for trying batch files, and for using king doom's frontend app. i want to use dlaunch, though, and keep things relatively simple. DOESN'T ANYONE OUT THERE USE DLAUNCH FOR CHANGING THE IWADS? i can't figure out how to make it work from any directions i've been able to find, and am about to give up on this great game altogether, out of sheer frustration. SOMEONE, ANYONE, PLEASE HELP! i know there has to be a simple explanation for this, without resorting to one of the other routes.
BTW, i am not a newbie to DOOM, but i am in terms of playing it on a pc, unfortunately... if that helps explain my quandary.

TIA

I have separate installs for each .wad file in different folders, that works great but uses some more disk space.

heh? For every port + IWAD + PWAD?
So then the calculation would be:

each_port * each_iwad * each_pwad ?

If so, or if you just made that for each port + iwad, you should really visit http://kickme.to/theking

the only thing i can think of that i haven't tried is specifying the wad during install. would this help?

what about the simple launchers jaako has listed on his "files" page? says they're basically analogous to batch files, which i've been given as another option.
