View Full Version : Icarus.wad maps 08 and 09 crashes with Jdoom

Okay, if anyone has a suggestion to get TeamTNT's map08 and Map09 to work in JDoom I'd love to hear it!
I've got Momento Mori2, Requiem and every other mega-wad (and wad) to work fine including every other level in Icarus to work, except these two maps! They just crash JDoom on loading.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Well, after fooling around with a wad editor, I realise it *might* be related to the below error(s) when I loaded map08 or map09 of icarus by themselves into JDoom. I get a 'R_TextureNumForName not found for texture IIWBLACKIIWBLACK' for level 9 and '.... IIWBLACK6|' for level8. It looks like Jdoom could be picking up on errors in the level that for instance normal Doom2 doesnt (I can run these maps in Doom2).
This could be BS, as when I warp to 8 or 9 when the full icarus.wad is loaded, it just freezes JDoom...

Damn, I guess I've spoken too soon. Icarus.wad map01 crashes whenever you get the first key (blue key) and a couple of textures you can see through :-(.
I love this wad, so hopefully Jdoom 1.12 will make it more compatible with wads other than the standard IWADS. Its ok to have a great looking Doom, but the longetivity is in the ability to play 3rd party PWADS. To be fair I havent played Momento Mori or Requiem all the way through so they may have problems too.

I'd like to question the authors on that, why the lack of compatibility. Legacy runs everything just fine, but doesn't look half as good. Jdoom coders, if you are reading, a turbo feature in 1.12 would also be nice

Yeah,
This actually got me trying out Legacy and ZdoomGL (oh dear!), to see if at least they looked good enough and had the compatibility with pwads. The ZDoom community are kinda wierd, they dont seem to get it that ppl actually *want* good graphics, the GL port is buggy and half-arsed (no offence!) and apparently disowned by those guys. Legacy was more impressive, the GL is good, but No real md2 support. Obviously if Jdoom sorted out the wierd pwad crashing problems, I wouldnt even think of looking elsewhere. BTW Chebs models for JDoom *rock* when compared to the other md2 packs, which just add's to JDoom's coolness.

Cheb's models are ace. I also like that alternative weapons pack that came out recently. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to test network play out on the LAN running jdoom, as here on my floor at uni, not everyone who wants to play doom has the sufficient specs to run jdoom well enough....so I settle to serving legacy games instead - which is good enough, but I sure would prefer jdoom!

Yeah,
We play network JDoom at work. It works really well. As Jaako mentions Jdoom is single threaded so whoever is running the server, if their game slows down (framerate slows down) then once in a while you'll notice the game stop then start again. We may be running a dedicated server so that should be better.
