jDoom and ATI Radeon 7500

I installed jDoom with all the patches on a new Pentium 4 machine I just built. It's running Windows 2000, SP2 and has an ATI Radeon 7500. I've tried several drivers for the ATI card, and I can't get jDoom to work properly. Has anyone seen this behavior before?

Under Direct3D, the screen freezes but the music continues in the background. I can start it up only for a few seconds. Under OpenGL, my monitor goes black and I can't do anything.

I have the Radeon VE (aka radeon 7000) with the 4.13.7189 drivers and ALL is fine!!!
