Wow... ide been very impressed with the 3D sound implementation with EAX2 ever since playing JDoom, despite its slight problems with the certain sound muffling issues, but after getting the latest update to Jdoom and using A3D with that a3dapi.dll support file, its just been AMAZING! ALL the sounds are super sharp and clear, the 3D sound is just as impressive as ever, and the reverb environmental effects seem to be even BETTER!

This is the way Doom was meant to sound, its just SO perfect and enhances the entire game tenfold... Its great to see that Jaakko is just as dedicated to improving JDoom in the sound areas as well as the graphical ones...

Wonderful work, no other port of Doom touches this....

Yeah, eye candy and ear candy go well together. Now if there was a way to turn off those pitched sounds.

Pitched sounds?! What do u mean? If u r talking about doppler effects, those are one thing that i -didnt- hear after switching from EAX2 to A3D... I really liked the doppler too (like when a flaming skull went flying by) but the trade of losing this effect for the enhanced sharpness and reverb of the A3D mode is worth it...

I'm talking about how the sounds will sound higher or lower than they usually do. Sometimes they get so high and squeaky. Zdoom has this also, but can be turned off in the config file.

Hey, I dont have that problem at all... the sounds never ever go funny here... they are always perfectly crisp and sharp and undistorted... Have u got an SBlive? Do u have Liveware 3 installed with the latest driver update?

The problem seems present if A3D is on and off.

Well, not that it matters anyway, but thanks. It seems everyone could care less about making the joystick actually work. Until it works, I won't be playing JDoom, even though I would really like to. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/frown.gif

I hate ZDoom because there's no joystick function at all. What's up with that?

most pep's with doom never use a joystick , mouse and keyboard is really the way to go for optimal control.. 98% of doom players play this way..

I'm special. I'm part of the 2% who use only a keyboard (or mouse).

Alright, don't flame me here, but...

Playing Doom with the keyboard/mouse: What do you use with what? Just curious, but do you use the mouse to move and stuff or what?

I guess I've been a long-term *console* Doomer, not PC. The joystick is my only way to go, and the control is perfect. But with a keyboard, I'm cannon fodder. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif

U really should give the keyboard/mouse control system a try...

I can understand what u mean about using the joystick/gamepad since youve been used to consoles... I too have made that transistion, have no doubts whatsoever about the perfection of keyboard and mouse for games like doom.. just try it and I guarantee u that once youve got the hang of it, u simply wont believe how u ever played the game any other way!

Try this simple config:

use the keyboard to move:

up arrow - walk forward
down arrow - walk backwards
left arrow - strafe left
right arrow - strafe right

U might also want to assign the 'use' function to a close-by key such as left control, left shift, enter, or keypad 0

Use the mouse to look around and use weapons:

make sure mouselook is always on, set mouse button one to fire, mouse button 2 could be anything from jump to use... If you have a wheelmouse then it can be used to change up and down through the weapons...

This may all seem a handful and a bit complicated if your not used to it, but you will be glad you tried it...

Good luck http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif

Well, it's worth a shot, but still...

I may be good with computers but I still do most of my gaming on my good-ol PSX. Make that a Playstation 2 if I ever get off my ass and get a job.

Really now, what's better, guys?

Playstation 2 + the new Metal Gear game + Final Fantasy X + Doom 3 port

Cost of Playstation 2: $300 and falling.

Geforce 3 + Doom 3 + Windows + Lockups + Freezing + Micro$oft

Cost of CPU to handle Doom 3: $2000+
Cost of Geforce 3: $600
Cost of cable or higher internet connection: $100 initial, $40/month

I'd rather do all my serious gaming on a console. PCs are still the best for editing and lots of other things, though.
