1) What is the Master's IP adress?

2) Are there any known servers for jDoom and their IPs?

3) Running on a Celeron400, GeForce2 card I found OpenGL to be 2x faster than D3D renderer ? Nvidia cards are supposed to be best for D3D. Why this happens (just curius, I like OpenGL better anyway...)?

4) The framerate is not as fast as it should be. Legacy runs better (but has less graphic eye-candy). I also think that my system specs are over enough to run at full speed a 6 years old 3d engine even with the new features jDOOM has implemented. After all most of them are done by the 3D accelerator, which in my case happens to be the best out there...

5) Could you implement hardware TnL for GeForce cards? Am I asking too much?

6) Lights and Lens are COOL but not too realistic. Lens effect is too "high" and Lights effect is too "low".

Try reducing a "litle" the size of the Lens and increase a "little" the light effect (take example of how the rocket light looks in Legacy. Something in the midle of jDoom and legacy would be perfect)

7) Are jDoom's lights REAL lights or fake lightmaps (ala Quake2) ???

Thanks very much.

Dimitris

I forgot to say how much this game ROCKS and is near perfect !

In many cases it puts Quake into shame. Great job. id software should hire you right now...

Although as I said this game is "near" perfect. Make it litle bit faster and the Lens/Lights litle bit more realistic and you have perfection...

Great job!

Bullshit, the GeForce 3 is the best graphics card out there. And Direct3D sucks ass. Microshit should have builted upon GL instead of making a new API. And on a shitty Celeron 400, don't expect much out of Jdoom. I can get a descent framerate at 1280x1024x16 under GL (but the eye candy changes that). And go to the Jdoom homepage and edit the lens flares to how he has them set to make look more relistic (but shittier).

Yes GeForce 3 is the best accelerator. Mine GeForce 2 is the second best ok?

Although I used to play originall Doom on a 486DX2 66MHz at full speed and the CPU then had to calculate the 3d engine AND do the rendering (no 3d accelerators then). Get it?

Now my Celeron 400MHz wich is 8x faster at least and has only the HALF work to do (since rendering stuff is done by the 3D accelerator), how come it can't get descent framerates?

Microsoft's Direct3D now is better than OpenGL. Check 99% of game developers now prefer it... Although I like OpenGL because it is portable.

Well where is it? I can't see it. All I see is this:

"Also, I did some changes to the lens flare and dynamic lights code. Now the light casted by sprites (i.e. all dynamic lights) are much more realistic when it comes to the size, brightness and color of the lights.

Okay, I'm not at all sure about this, but I'll give my two cents. There is no master server, although a dedicated server can be made, the JDoom docs barely mentions program like that but it seems that Jaakko hasn't released it yet (perhaps not done yet).

There's two reasons for this:
1) The nvidia cards *are* optimized for OpenGL, and this is I'm darn sure about
2) The OpenGL code in JDoom is more optimized than the D3D code (this I'm almost 100% sure about)

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, serif">quote:</font><hr width="100%" size="1" noshade><font face="Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, serif" size="2">4) The framerate is not as fast as it should be. Well, Jaakko isn't any John Carmack when it comes to 3d coding. The code just isn't optimized enough (which I don't think will happen any soon, since it seems that Jaakko focuses more on making new stuff than optimizing the original stuff (which is just a good thing anyway, ne?)). I think the dynamic lighting routines in particular burns off a lot of processor power, so if you're really desperate for a better fps turn it off.

The lens flares are highly customizeable, I can't remember the console commands right now but there should be some of them to change the flares completely.
