Jaako, you had the best idea: merge all of the doom engines together into one engine and have plug-in dlls for each games(doom, heretic, hexen.)

Extending this concept further, it would be awesome to program Quake to be able to use Doom maps and to use the doom, heretic, hexen dlls and have one unified engine!

This would allow so many cool things to happen. Quakeworld's net prediction in the doom games, auto-downloads of models/maps/skins/sounds/etc, Quakeworld's master server support. Ability to play Doom maps with Quake gameplay and vice versa! The possibilities are endless!

http://www.quake3stuff.com/glquake/ is a good Quake1 project, you don't need to use Masm with it(I know Masm can be dloaded free for MSVC++, however it's nice to have code that can be compiled for all cpus, not just x86 cpus.) It also has organized directory structures. If yours and this project can be merged into one Doom/Quake engine, well, it would be cooler than any phrase I can think up!

Hexen2 source code(based on the Quake1 engine) has been released http://www.gamespy.com/news/november00/hexen2/ If you do this you can have Hexen1 and Hexen2 supported by one engine!

Actually, there is a Quake1 project that has taken all the quake source ports' enhancements and bug fixes and made one excellent port. Its called QBISM. You can find out more at http://qbism.telefragged.com/qinfo.shtml

Jaakko: I hope there is something in the Hexen2 source code that might come in handy... But first you gotta find some time!
