View Full Version : Major problem in JDoom

Hi folks,

I think I found a problem with JDoom (which however might be easy to fix in the code).
I found, that I can shoot at walls only. In E1M1 of Ultimate Doom in the first room to the left, I want to climb the stairs and shoot the guys from above (I tested it with Edge, Legacy etc. and it is no problem there
to shoot at the floor or ceiling). However, if in JDoom one points to the floor and shoots, the bullet hits the bottom of the nearest WALL in this direction rather than the floor. Therefore, I have to hope to catch a monster in front of a wall to shoot it from an above position, at least in JDoom 0.82.

Any ideas about that ?

Cheers,
Traz

I emailed Jaakko about this bug but he didn't want to fix it. Its a pity because ports like ZDoom and Legacy have eliminated this problem. Perhaps if enough people bother him about it he might change his mind but I doubt it.

Hi,

It is very sad, because graphically JDoom beats every other port in my opinion. What did he say, why he doesn't want to fix it?
I think, the unrestricted mouse look doesn't make too much sense without this feature (that's why the legacy and edge teams implemented it). Maybe, I should take the graphic source code part of JDoom and mix it with the legacy or edge or zdoom engine...

P.S Before you told me about your attempt to convince him, I had already written an email myself. He hasn't responded yet, but keep your fingers crossed that we can change his mind. I started the email text with praises of his port, so hopefully his heart will melt away http://www.newdoom.com/ubb/smile.gif)
