I found some nice tutorials on TreeView and ListView controls which I needed to do what I want with the Doom Wad Database. Probably won't be the most efficient code, but it should look a lot like MAME32's GUI with filters on the left and the wads listed on the right.

Yeah it's VB until someone decides they want to re-write it in VC++ or something else.

VB is a lot faster than it used to be though.

I like VB for some stuff. Nice and quick. I don't know how to use those controls though.

For anything other than standard controls you pretty much have to find a good tutorial or sample code.
