If yes, I have created 140 skies (you can have them in the "JiveSkies Series" on my "Utilities" page), and some of them are highres ones, like this Town under the clouds:

Which ports use hi res skys?
Do you mean skys that have a higher resolution, or do you mean the taller skies used by most ports for looking up and down?

I mean the taller skies used by most ports for looking up and down!
And what I call "highres" skies in this thread, is for "detailed" skies. You're right! Perhaps "MD2" skies is best?
If you think that I commited an error, please rename my thread, Doom_dude, and replace "highres" with "MD2". Is it possible?

Jive, how about making available the original larger images, since ZDOOM does indeed support hires skies - taller than 240. I've used 512 tall skies and they look way better (better detail) than 240 skies.
People can always scale down.
I'd like to use the city one, but as it is all the detail is lost.

It's not possible to rename a thread.

deepteam, my site is named "Doom Legacy Wads" and not "Doom Zdoom Wads"... LOL
http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smilies/cwm27.gif
Hmmm... I know about this port and his real highres skies, but I don't use it, so I don't make stuff for it, but for the one I use.
You forgot that DLW is a site dedicated to Legacy?!? And as far as Legacy don't have yet this feature... But you're right: I must try these skies with Zdoom, just to see how they looks like! And you know what? I'm sure that they are blurred!!!

Always think of the future - Legacy will most likely support hires textures (and that includes skys) - according to Hurdler http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif

Yeah, Hurdler has that pretty high on his priority list.

Okay: I have tried Zdoom (1.23 beta 33) and Zdoomgl... the skies are crappy on my comput!
Zdoom don't like the skies made for Legacy (256x240)!!!
I will think to the future when the future will be the present! http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smilies/cwm32.gif
I must honestly say that I'm a little disappointed with Legacy: my town isn't as beautiful as my picture is! (some hideous blue points appear here and there, and the top of most of the towers are too square!
So, I have corrected it.
... And here is the original picture (sky from "Heroes.wad"):

I hate making skys for DooM. The limited doom palette always makes them look shite.

I don't know about your skys and I certainly wasn't saying yours are shite but mine are. I have no probs making textures with the Doom palette but when it comes to skys...... I just can't get clouds to look like clouds when the limited palette just pixelates it to death. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/wink.gif

ZDOOM does 240 fine - however 512x240 is a better size. If you want to see how 512x240 looks in ZDOOM only, download
www.sbsoftware.com\files\xtheateriii.zip (http://www.sbsoftware.com\files\xtheateriii.zip)
You need to add -heapsize 30 for ZDOOM to play.
There's also a partial conversion made for BOOMSDAY that works in Legacy too - except that all the hires textures come up as "white" - just ignore that - but you can see the sky just fine:
www.sbsoftware.com\files\xtheateriiilegacy.zip (http://www.sbsoftware.com\files\xtheateriiilegacy.zip)
You need to add -mb 30 for Legacy for the textures.
Carefully look at the sky differences. Notice that ZDOOM bumps up the bottom a bit so you see more of the sky.
Also notice that ZDOOM does not have the Y shear problem that Legacy has as you look up (Legacy code is incorrect here).
Basically the same style of city sky you have, only with much greater detail since it's wider.
Both of these files are 6mb downloads since they have hires texture replacements.
Btw, I forgot that ZDOOM had a mistake that wouldn't work with 512 (or taller than 240) skies (which this was originally), hope Randy fixes this in the next release.

Yeah, I'm glad I cdn play Legacy in GL where that problem doesn't occur. Funny cause back before 1.30 they were talking about eliminating that, but it's there now.
