The Commander Keen thing changes when you reach a certain number of posts.

To change your Avatar you need to have a link to the picture you want to use, preferably 64x64 pixels in size, then edit your profile (there is a button for it near the top of the page) using that link to your avatar picture. It wont work with Geocities and some other free web space folk but you can ask Big al to store the pictures for you, he has tons of web space.
