Please don't blast a BFG my way, but I have NEVER played online Doom multiplayer before. I am curious as do how I setup to play online, and where is there a good place to find a bunch of people to play with. After playing hours of online Serious Sam, I am absolutely hooked! I would love to start creating my own deathmatch maps as I am starting to get sick of single player maps. Is online Dooming still pretty popular?
Thanks,
And in case you need the info, I have Doom 2, and I use either ZDoom or Edge as my port. ZDoom seems to work best for me since Edge likes to freeze every now and then.

Take a look here (http://www.xodemultimedia.com/connector/).
Engine-specific tweaks are explained at their documentation.

We should make a Doom Connector topic in the fourms. It seems that lately a lot of people have been asking how to play on-line.

Yea although i've been here quite a while, believe it or not i never got a chance to play Doom online. Well actually no one ever wanted to play with me and i really don't know where to go, since you know its not like other FPS game where source code are there to brough up a list of available servers to join, i need someone IP and their number if necessary...so i soppose that's why no one want to bother with me. But anyway enought with my poor self story, if anyone want to just play a match with me, let me know and thanx a lot for the link, i will check that site out and perhaps get some more idea then.

Terminator, I'll Deathmatch you. I, too, am new to online Doom, and I still have yet to play it as I'm writing this. I downloaded the program (thanks for the link, by the way), but there's rarely anybody on it when I login. I also agree that there should be a Connector forum on here. I'm sure people would like to form a massive deathmatch some nights, or download eachother's deathmatch maps to play eachother on.

I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate HATE HATE!!!!! the doom connector. There was once a time when me and 3 to 15 other doomers would go into a chat/doom connection program called Doomserv! It wasn't anything big but there was a truly nice community that I would look foreward to seeing... the Doom Connector indirectly killed it by stealing its idea. I miss anim8r, slug, blunt, greensting, charl, and many others.... the good ol days

Heh, there's a Doom Connector 4 thread right here in rants. Couldn't tell you if that thing is any good.

Well with the likes of Skulltag and ZDaemon and a bunch of other third party clients that can hook you up with others playing Doom, I would think Doom Connector 4 would be questionable if its even useful.

Turns out I can't comment on the usefulness of DC4 because its installer doesn't correctly register the necessary components and I'm too lazy to do it manually. :D

DC4? I didn't know DC3 ever even left beta stage. :D
For now try Skulltag and the IDE SE server browser.

Yeah. Everything works now, so join us at doomconnector.co.nr.
We're not stealing doomserv's idea, just keeping Doom alive.
That's all that realy matters to me.

www.zdaemon.org is the best online Doom experience I had, until they started banning whole cities for no reason : \
