Aparently the People that thought the direct translation of the Japanese name, Pocket Monsters, was too confusing to their target audience, so they made it to the much simpler, widley understood 'Poke'Mon'. BTW, this is sarcasm in it's finest.

Hey, hey, don't diss the Jap animation, it is some really neat stuff when you get past the terribly dubbed DBZ, the lame as hell Poke'Mon, and all the other ripoffs thereof.

Take a look at Tenchi Muiyo, Gundam Wing, Neon Genesis Evangelion, New Domain Tank Police, Slayers, Bubblegum Crisis, and Ghost in a Shell.

Before judging Anime, look into the pure form of it. Often in the translation, things are really messed with, thus the typical sheety music and voice acting. The pure Japanese form, or a correctly handled dub, (Tenchi Muiyo and Gundam Wing are nice examples of this) can often be very nice shows.

And if your into naked cartoon porn, Anime is the best! *looks around* *runs off of stage*
