While trying to play VileCore with Don, Looney, and DOOM Dude, my computer went berserk and I rebooted only to find that configuration for TCP/IP was messed up, and I couldn't get online, after contacting earthlink, and nearly destorying my pc, I desided to re-format my harddrive, loosing almost everything, except the things I most needed, Everything is close to getting back to normal except I can't seem to get MSN to work now. Though the Instant messenger works, the explorer doesn't seem to be working right, So. I'm going to contact MSN and find out why it isin't and how I can make it work right. BTW I'm back on ICQ also, and waiting for authorization from FinitE and Ferrari. to finish adding them to my list again. Later http://forums.newdoom.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

On my new PC, is there a way to copy downloaded email from Outlook Express 5, and bookmarks from IE5, to OE5 and IE5 on a seperate hard drive? Any of you know how?

Can I have those skins too? It's about time I put a little color into Doom http://forums.newdoom.com/ubb/smile.gif

I don´t get guys that say "I had to reformat and loose every thing". To get a HD so mess up that the only way out is to reformat is pretty rare. I don´t reformat my HD for like 2,5 years now. I have a directory which I store everything I don´t want to loose. When Windows crashes beyond hope (once a semester), I boot my system with a really useful boot disk I made, which I was able to cram every major useful DOS app (Edit, mouse drivers, CDRom sys, FDisk, Smartdrv, Scandisk and likes). So I boot in DOS, just fires an "Attrib *.* -a -s -h -r" in the root (so I can delete everything, even hidden and system files) and do a deltree in all directories, except my important directory. Then I reinstall Windows. And pretty much nothing changes or get lost.

Well, things have only gotten so bad that I had to reformat once or twice with my old computer. But I don't use standard DOS commands since that is too messy--I just use EZ Drive or FDisk and simply reset the File Allocation Tables. The data's still there, presumably, but it's regarded as blank space and is pretty much inaccessable.

As for losing everything, I don't think I ever lost -everything-. I would copy a ton of stuff onto disks. Or like more recently, I simply copy everything I want to save onto a clean hdd. http://forums.newdoom.com/ubb/smile.gif

Recently however, I've been saving all installation files and the like to their own directory, so that I don't have to redownload QuakeWorld and all the patches and programs and drivers...It's more secure just in case I may have to reformat again! (That won't be for a while because I just got a new PC and installed everything, and it's running great!)

I believe the best thing one can do is to have two HDs. (IDE 1/2, or Master/Slave or whatever) I´m going for that ASAP. I mean, the prices are coming down as fast as a wingless chinese Mig.

Since my new system came with a new hard drive, I have 2. But for some reason I can't connect them both into the same IDE slot!! Instead, I have to unplug one of the CD drives and plug my old 3 gigger in the secondary IDE slot. And then I have no l33t DVD drive. Stupid old incompatible hard drive.

I wonder how long it will be before I fill up my 30gb. ...I gotta fill up my first 3gb though http://forums.newdoom.com/ubb/smile.gif

On the bright side, I tested my CD RW last night and copied Doom music to a CD. Neato!

Hey Zack.
Are you familiar with the term "jumpers"?

I´m pretty sure you are, but just to remember you: you can´t have two master drives in the same IDE cable. And since you said that you had one and the other come with your machine, and since you also said that it works when you plug in the CD secondary IDE, I guess that´s pretty much it. http://forums.newdoom.com/ubb/smilies/cwm1.gif

Now, focus:
Cable=master+slave -> good
Cable=master+master -> well, that´s a no no.

LOL. Don't think I'm stupid, OldDog http://forums.newdoom.com/ubb/smile.gif

They won't work when one is set to slave, and the other set to master, or vise versa. Besides, I don't need two hard drives if I haven't even used 10% of one...

Whops. I mean, I knew that. http://forums.newdoom.com/ubb/smilies/cwm4.gif

Probably not the case either, but when you try to make a Win95 system read a Win98 FAT 32 disk, it just won't work, you know...

Hmm. I guess I can't quite remember something good for help you at this time.

Well, thanks for that FAT32-reading advice. It explained a little but didn't help too much...but I'll keep it in mind http://forums.newdoom.com/ubb/smile.gif
